Gothic Glastonbury Wedding Inspiration

Today on Marry Me Ink, I get to share with you this dark, gothic shoot from Swan Photography and Sarah of Photo Press. Sarah runs an Alternative Wedding Suppliers Facebook Group and asked who wanted to be involved. Choosing to make it as inclusive as possible, she included anyone who was happy to be involved. It was difficult to organise with so many people on board but it was worth it in the end, Sarah managed the whole thing and everyone involved pitched in where needed, it was very much an equal collaboration from everyone else.

It was at Glastonbury Wedding venue on a grey and rainy day in March meaning that the moodiness of the day contributed to the shoot. It was a shame we didn’t get more shots outside due to the rain, but some of the cloudy shots look really great and fit the theme perfectly. The venue is a de-consecrated church so they can hold any non religious wedding which is appealing to any type of couple, traditional or alternative, especially great as it’s so close to Glastonbury. The venue has lots of original features and has been recently restored. It is about two miles from Glastonbury and is surrounded by farmland with amazing views of Glastonbury Tor.

I wanted to create an alternative shoot and given the venue, I felt gothic was perfect. We wanted to go for dark colours, non-traditional dresses from Devlin Bridal Couture and Belle Of The Ball Bridal as well as alternative looks for the models hair and make up. The models also have piercings and tattoos and we chose a same sex shoot as we wanted to appeal to a wider audience because I feel that this is often overlooked.

I think all of the aspects of this shoot could apply to real life. All items are available to buy from established Wedding Suppliers so anyone wanting to have a dark or gothic theme to their wedding could easily recreate this look. I supply newspaper stationery for peoples weddings so I don’t get to try things at weddings as such, but I’d love to see more weddings with black dresses or cakes and those dark red and purple flowers were truly beautiful!  Continue reading

A Dark Souls, Friday The 13th Wedding – Stephanie & Larry

I adore a bride in a black wedding dress and Stephanie looks incredible in hers from Eric Dress. They exchanged vows and partied at Old Rock Church in Utah with their friends and family which was filled with gorgeous paper flowers which they handmade out of old anatomy books and they had Convincing Imaging there to capture their day.

We met trough a mutual friend in high school. His friend Andy had recently moved to my home town of Malad Idaho, and Larry (my husband) came up to visit him. I was on my way to cheer practice when we stopped at Thomas Market, the local grocery store to pick up some drinks. They pulled in at the same time and that’s when we met. The first words I ever said to him were, “get in the cart b****!” And I proceeded to push him through the parking lot and almost ran him into a car. Later that night, after the football game, we hung out that’s when he kissed me. We told each other that we loved each other that night.

We based our entire wedding off of our favorite video games, Dark Souls, so the whole wedding was a representation of us and what we love to do as a couple. Gaming is a really big part of our lives and those games in particular have a very special place in our hearts.

Legend Bridal’s Alternative Catwalk – The Great Northern Wedding Show

img_20160918_120152

Just over a week ago, I had the opportunity to visit the Great Northern Wedding Show where Marry Me Ink’s ultimate favourite Legend Bridal Designs had their own slot on the runway – The Alternative Catwalk.

Having such a massive love for Charlotte, Rach and the team at Legend Bridal Designs, I just had to be there and on the front row to witness the gowns in all their glittering glory. The catwalk was perfectly captured by ZT Photography (Which is why I’m using them because, as you can see, I’m busy Instagramming and catching the dresses as they pass the front row!) and she even included a little shoot in the car park afterwards.

This dress was a combination of gorgeous silk and featured a fresh flower train from another of Marry Me Ink’s favourites – Paragon Floral Design. I took a few shots and videos myself and uploaded them to the Marry Me Ink Instagram page if you want to check out the rest of the day!  Continue reading

A Victorian Carnival Wedding Weeking Part II – Jo & Leigh

DSC_5980

You may remember that I eventually got round to blogging the first half of Jo and Leigh’s carnival wedding a few weeks ago. The ultimate tattooed bride Miss Jo Black got married last year and, in the run up, blogged for Marry Me Ink with all her planning details. Jo and her husband Leigh decided to split their wedding celebrations over two days – One day for the legal part with their very closest family and the second day celebrating with all of their friends. Today I get to share with you Jo and Leigh’s second day of celebrations from photographer Matthew Harris Photo.

We decided to have a Victorian Carnival theme at the reception, a sort of freak show and circus vibe because we are far from normal people, and we wanted to just feel as comfortable as possible on our wedding day! Everything was also black and gold which looked amazing!

I basically hand made everything decoration wise, roped my sister in law, bridesmaids and my mother in to a lot of making bunting and pompoms, hand painting signs and decorating our own cakes! Being an artist I really wanted to have as much input into the design elements of the day as possible. I kept a lot of it secret from Leigh, I wanted him to be wowed on the day! Everything was in black and gold, the best part of it for me was doing the cakes, we had so much fun and they looked amazing!
