A Lancashire Mill Wedding With A Harry Potter Theme – Marry Me Ink Got Married!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! As I start 2019 as Mrs Whittaker, how better to start of Marry Me Ink’s year than to share Rob & I’s rustic Holmes Mill wedding from October of last year – The perfect time of year for a Harry Potter themed wedding! Our great friends Jaye and Matt of Tux & Tales Photography had the photos and video trailer all ready for us before Christmas and I’ve been dying to share them with you!

We chose to get married at Holmes Mill as it was a lovely new venue when we visited and they had so much still to add to it which, when it came to the wedding day, was perfect for everyone – There was a hotel and bistro on site as well as an amazing food hall (not to mention the ice cream shop) and there are still more exciting things to be added yet (a cinema and spa to name a few)!

Knowing all the northern suppliers pretty well through Marry Me Ink, it was a no-brainer who to have involved in our special day. The supplier friends we had involved with our special day included Paragon Floral Design and Andy Murphy DJ to name a few.

There was plenty of DIY attributes to our wedding decoration which, at the time, I got tired of doing – but in the end I think they looked great. To fit with our Harry Potter theme, I made the winged keys for the place names and Rob melted and moulded the chocolate frogs (when he wasn’t eating them!) The final week up to the wedding I had my mum and sisters helping me put together over 80 chocolate frog boxes – We must have tried every kind of adhesive (Gorilla Glue worked best!) and we finally finished them all the night before, complete with Harry Potter themed temporary tattoos from Doris Loves.

We scoured the shops for all the quirky candelabras and tealight holders and created our own “Honeydukes” themed sweet station complete with Liquorice Wands, Sherbet Lemons and Fizzing Whizbees!

Charlotte and Rachel of Legend Bridal helped create my Grecian, sparkly dress and I loved the whole process! From picking my fabrics to trying on the template dress, each time I visited, my dress got more and more beautiful. I went for an ice blue silk dress with lots of organza in the colour “Misty Green”. Green is my favourite colour so I had to wear a green dress! They created a beautiful bespoke dress with a detachable cowl back cape. I’ve had chance to wear it again since the wedding and it’s so comfortable as well as my Rachel Simpson shoes – I would highly recommend Legend Bridal if you’re wanting to design your own wedding dress! The amazing Jane at HF Couture also created a bespoke leafy crown to match my dress and it couldn’t have been more perfect – If only I could get away with wearing it every day! It was go intricate and detailed – from the leaves she chose to the beading – everything matched! One of my bridesmaids (or bridesman) did my hair on the day and Sonara Parker completed my look with her golden make up bag.

Our tasty macaron tower was from the great LouLou’s Meringues who is local to Holmes Mill and creates the most delicious desserts – We chose to have a Macaron tower as we had afternoon tea as our meal on the day, plus – what a great way to get eight different flavours in one cake?!

The evening was so much fun and I think we all dance well into the night. If you want to see our full list of suppliers, make sure you check the end of the gallery for the list.

Thank you to everyone who made our wedding so special, I loved having suppliers who are friends involved in our wedding day.
