This year we went to Disney and I’m missing it already.. Nicki and Brett’s elopement at Walt Disney World could not have arrived at a better time in my inbox from Carmela Blackwell Photography!
Brett & I met at work. We spoke in passing for a few months then one day we went out for a drink after work and moved in together a week later – we have been inseparable ever since (and still work together). We got together, engaged and married on the same date of each different year since we met.
We had lots of details that represented us – Brett loves skulls and I love Disney so the cake, flowers and colour scheme was inspired by the Disney movie Coco due to the Day of the Dead celebrations. We absolutely loved our cake as it was black but with lots of bright coloured details.
The whole day was magical from start to finish; it is hard to pick just one highlight. Our first look at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge was amazing when we saw each other for the first time, made even more special when a little boy shouted “look mummy it’s a princess.”
We loved walking down the aisle together- it was just the two of us at the wedding and it was kept a secret so we loved that we could enjoy every aspect of the day together on our own.
The people we saw around Disney were so lovely. We had pictures in the lounge at the Yacht Club and were given champagne and the baker came out to present us with a gorgeous white chocolate Mickey Mouse statue and balloons.
We wanted to use independent businesses to make unique items rather than buy generic items – Brett is a huge Marvel fun so the ring box was a nod to his hero The Incredible Hulk, made for us by Mazzi at Mazzimakes on Etsy. We designed our shoes ourselves and they were created by Kayleigh at JustPeachyGB on Etsy – They are hand painted Toms with our favourite Disney couples, sugar skulls for our Coco theme and Team Bricki and our wedding date on the back. We had a gorgeous bag made for us too with Brett as the Hulk and Nicki as Minnie Mouse by Vicky at Miss VLM Bags.
We have quite a collection of tattoos – Our favourite is probably our Mickey and Minnie by Jackie Huertas that make one tattoo when you put them together with hearts to represent our anniversary date.
Our advice to those couples planning their own wedding would be to do what you want to do that reflects you as a couple – Don’t be frightened to break away from doing a “traditional” wedding!
I am absolutely in love with Nicki and Brett’s Disney elopement – Especially all the Coco references – That’s one of my favourite Disney films! Thank you to them both and to Carmela Blackwell Photography for sharing their day with Marry Me Ink – What’s your favourie part?
