I Paint Flowers – Sand Dune Bridal Inspiration

Today on Marry Me Ink, we’re escaping this blustery weather and diving into the sand dunes with this floral inspiration including a gorgeous dress from Oh My Honey and photography from Marie Marry Me and Mira Al Pajarito.

The idea of this shoot was born a few months ago. In May we were working in London, and we met Oh My Honey, a vintage bridal brand based there. All the designs are absolutely feminine, with this special vintage touch… It was love at first sight! We had to work with Louise! This summer we contacted Felip Ariza to ask him to do an illustration (love his art!), we started planning this shooting. He sent us an illustration of two Mexican skulls (many thanks again Felip, they are lovely!). We took this picture as a departure to plan something. Our very first idea was a Mexican wedding inspiration shoot, but we realized that maybe it would be better to play only with the couple, in a private lovers shoot. We were also working in a fall inspiration shooting, based in a Charles Baudelaire’s poem: Autumn Song. Martin and I preferred to simplify things to keep working with both ideas.

We wrote Louise to let her know about the idea, and she was so excited too! She helped us to create the looks, in collaboration with L-O-M Fashion and Oh My Honey, a fashion brand with beautiful colourful designs, and some weeks after we received a parcel with a collection of gowns, silk scarfs, skirts, petticoats… When I opened the box, it felt like Christmas morning!

With Gaëlle, from Carnet de Noces, we planned a simple couple shooting in the dune of Pilat, the highest dune of Europe. Can you imagine the views? Just awesome… We told the story to Julie, a jewellery designer. She easily got the concept and sent us some look-books with designs from l’Atelier des Dames. We love her idea about to mix different beaded bracelets, to create a wristband!

Marie was wearing a red flower crown that Esther of Prairie Sauvage made for the shoot. She made also a boutonnière in the same palette for Romain. They were both simply lovely! Julia Marty, the artist behind the brushes, highlighted her cheeks and painted her lips in red. She tied Marie’s hair in a low bun, to crown her head with red flowers. She was gorgeous… We wanted red floral accessories, something less formal than a bouquet. And Esther helped us to choose the perfect match for the couple.

An Intimate Yosemite National Park Wedding – Camilla & Matt

If you’ve been on the Marry Me Ink Facebook over the weekend you would have seen me sneak peek the gorgeous tattooed bride Camilla and Matt at Yosemite Park – Camilla is wearing a cute dress from Monsoon too! Today I’m so excited to share with you their wedding that took place at Redwoods from VeVi Photography. The views of the wedding ceremony are breathtaking!

Matt plays in a USA based death metal band, Exhumed, who were touring Europe extensively. Being really hungover I decided to go along to their show in London one evening, and thus met him there. I came stumbling out the toilets and I think he complimented me on my shirt I was wearing- which was a Tank Filth Hounds of Hades shirt. We managed to find each other on the social media world and exchanged messages for about a month before deciding to meet up in Amsterdam to see Iron Maiden – our “First Date” lasted almost a week as we traversed Amsterdam, London and Reading together.

Obviously, doing long distance and having 6000 miles between you means a lot of your family and friends don’t know about your story together or just hang out with you much in general, so we had a photo timeline out of our key dates and pictures from the 3 years. Seeing as we both LOVE heavy metal and Metallica we made a joke around the album “Ride the Lightning” and made a sign saying “Bride the Lightning” with our date on it. We don’t know if anyone else found it funny, but we sure did!

Being on a tight budget and very remote in a National Park we did a lot of everything ourselves. Pretty much everything including decorating jars, the archway, the bouquets, folding the napkins…We did most of it two days before  the wedding. Mostly me, Matt and the photographer we trapped in the middle of nowhere in Yosemite with us, but I have to say if it wasn’t for my photographer, Andreea, I would have been totally lost. She came and rescued the day and taught me how to arrange flowers, do origami napkins and just generally helped everything. I think the most fun was those two days of drinking while decorating things way up in the mountains. The arch was her idea and she made it in the morning of the wedding with leftover flowers and twigs! (hurray for jetlag!) We were so thankful and don’t think we have told her enough how amazing she is!

Due to the absolute nightmare I had for years with the US visa, we had to postpone our wedding. Originally it was supposed to be in August a year earlier. I was most excited about the day finally coming! That was the highlight for me at the end of a long immigration process… Finally, both us dressing up, having an amazing day (in the rain) and just amazing pictures of it all (we had Yosemite National Park as our backdrop!) and saying our vows in front of family and friends. The party was pretty wild!

A Bohemian Tipi Wedding – Chloe & Stephen

Today on Marry Me Ink I get to share with you a beautiful bohemian style tipi wedding from London wedding photographer Babb Photo. Chloe and Stephen met in their local village pub over tequila whilst listening to Oasis.

I live and work in China so Stephen actually proposed to me over Skype! We have been together for 11 and a half years and were engaged for 18 months of that.

Stephen is a keen wakeboarder and so knew the location of our wedding well. He went to the lake one day and spotted there was a wedding happening at Chittering Farm. He called me to come and have a look, so I did, and we both fell in love with the place. It was perfect for the informal, festival style wedding that we wanted to achieve.

Our ceremony was incredibly special as it was lead by my best friend Kat, who was also chief bridesmaid. We were officially married the day before in the registry office. We had 3 readings and 4 blessings. I chose the readings based on the fact that I didn’t want anything too soppy, sexist or unrelatable! The readings were a snippet form a quote by Einstein on relativity and love. A poem by Roy Croft, called I Love you, and another poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. Our vows were the traditional style vows as we didn’t want to make the ceremony too out there!

One of my very good friends, Rosie Bailey, has always had a keen eye for anything to do with flowers and gardening. She recently set up her own business called Wild Florals. After seeing posts of her flower arranging, I knew she would be the best person for the job. I wanted to create a very natural feel, that echoed the environment and she did that beautifully.

The photography was simply amazing. The main reason I chose Babb Photo was based upon the fact that on the website, Laura mentioned that she loves tattoos, glitter and Dr Martens, that sold it to me! I also spent time looking through her gallery and loved the journalistic style photos she was able to create. She made us both feel so comfortable, especially as we are not a slushy couple and were worried about the photos of just us. Laura made us feel at ease and made us laugh. We couldn’t be happier with our choice!

A Low-Key, Rustic Barn Wedding – Jess & Ben

Today on Marry Me Ink, I get to share with you Jess and Ben’s beautiful barn wedding from Lace and Luce Photography. Jess owns her own florist business L’Orangerie Floral Design and obviously created her own bouquets – They are gorgeous!

Ben and I grew up on the same street, his younger brother was in my class all the way from Kindergarten to High School graduation. We never really knew each other despite growing up a few doors down from each other. But one night at a bush party in high school, we locked eyes and were inseparable for the rest of the summer, and for the last 10 years!

We did everything ourselves for this wedding, so all the touches were very personal. I am a Florist by day, so all the floral touches, on the cake, the tables, the floral arch etc. are definitely all me. We had Caribbean food catered, which has so many vegan/vegetarian options which was important for us and our friends. Ben is in a band (New Swears) so the guys from New Swears and our friend Shawn performed a full set, including our first dance, father/daughter dance and mother/son dance. Our ceremony was short and sweet with live acoustic music from Ben’s cousin Joe, the bar was fully stocked with hand-crafted cocktails and beer made by one of the groomsmen’s father, and jager-bombs for the bridal party – it made for a very fun night!

I don’t think my tattoos were really a thought when I was choosing a dress. I don’t usually dress around my tattoos – I had originally wanted a dress with sleeves and a low-back, but couldn’t find anything that worked for me. The dress that I chose is actually a custom Truvelle dress, we mixed the top of one dress, with the bottom of the other (and I thought my tattoos looked great in it anyway!)
