An Urban, Graffiti Filled Groom Shoot

nottingham-portrait-photographer-9

I couldn’t wait to share with you this urban styled groom shoot from Matt Selby Photography. I love it that I get to share tattooed grooms as well as tattooed brides! Matt decided on an impromptu photoshoot in Nottingham’s Lace Market, where nothing was planned, apart from the shoot. After meeting up with his trusty assistant Gareth, they met up with model (and recently crowned Mr Nottingham) Chris Wells

The following images were taken to demonstrate the photographic potential for grooms (or brides for that matter) in urban areas. The areas covered in the shoot are all within a 5 minute walk from each other so one doesn’t have to venture far to find ideal photo opportunities.

I find it interesting to walk down a street with the intention on finding a suitable area for a photograph, with this mind-set one can quickly find scenes/backdrops that could otherwise be ignored. One particular building I came across had some serious photographic potential, a boarded up door, paint cracking & peeling off the walls the kind of building you don’t expect to see in Nottingham’s Lace Market – the sort of building people will pass on a daily basis and simply ignore, maybe we’re subconsciously drawn to the opposite in urban areas, as we’re so used to seeing designer shops, vibrant colours, advertisements etc which makes building like this go unnoticed. For me, finding these hidden gems can not only be satisfying when you see the final images, but can set you apart from other photographers.

A Nautical Harbour Wedding – Natalie & Ronnie

Today on Marry Me Ink, I get to introduce you to Natalie and Ronnie and their sunshine filled wedding at Huntington Harbour Bay Club from Wheeland Photography. Once Ronnie had proposed to Natalie, she knew she wanted a backless dress so booked in to have her tattoo completed in time for the big day. It look so gorgeous in her Stephen Yearick gown.

We knew each other as friends for a few years in the same circle of people before we started to date. He suggested we get dinner one night to catch up after a period of not seeing each other and the rest is history.

Our main them was Nautical. I love the ocean and Ronnie loves fishing and in our early days of dating we spent a lot of time out on his boat fishing.

Our wedding day flew by and was a wonderful whirlwind! The emotional moments leading up to walking down the aisle, the knot tying ceremony and the cake cutting were fond moments. I’m also grateful that my Grandmother (Mother’s mother) and Grandfather (Father’s father) were able to share this day with us. Both have passed since our wedding day.

A Camp Katur Festival Wedding – Grace & Danny

Camp Katur festival Papakata Tipi Wedding by Toast Photography

Grace and Danny’s wedding took place at the awesome Camp Katur – The ultimate festival glamping site, full of Tipis in Yorkshire. The lovely Shelly of Toast Of Leeds sent this over and I fell in love with it straight away!

We met at a house party when I was 16, we had never met and Danny stole my seat when I went to the toilet and when I came back we pretended to everyone that we had known each other for years and I sat on his knee – we had  a cheeky kiss upstairs whilst his best friend hid in the wardrobe… and he gave me a fiver for my taxi home – good first impression!! After that night we didn’t see each other for a couple of months and then kept bumping into each other at the pub, we were both seeing other people at the time so it was a bit awkward but we eventually started texting. Then on Valentine’s day (cringe) I had just become officially single and was sat in the loo of the local pub pissed and feeling sorry for myself and rang him asking whether he was going to come and see me… he played it cool and said he was at a house party so probably wouldn’t make it so I drowned my sorrows with a few more diesels at the bar, 20 minutes later he walked in and asked me if I was coming to his – so I did!

Marry Me Ink Loves Kelly J Photography

MMI_4034

Happy May! Today I get to introduce you to the totally awesome Kelly J Photography. Originally from the North West (Like Marry Me Ink!), Kelly is now based in Somerset.

MMI_4047

I’m Kel, the crazy bird lady behind Kelly J Photography. I like to think my style is fun, laid back with crap load of personality. Down to earth, alternative couples are the best and I’m also great with people who are camera shy. Now based in Somerset but originally from the North West and travel all over the country and abroad for super awesome weddings.

MMI_4039

I’m really inspired by all the different environments I’m in and try and include as much of that in my work as possible, I adore nature but I also love a good abandoned building. Other things that inspire me are music, films and the couples I am fortunate to work with.
