A DIY Wine Estate Wedding With Celtic Traditions in Cape Town – Roxie & Shaun

Today I get to share with you the gorgeous outdoor wedding that took place at the Bon-Amis Bloemendal Wine Estate in Durbanville in Cape Town, South Africa from the fabulous Heline Bekker Photography.

Roxie & Shaun’s story started seven years before their wedding day where they met online and when they eventually met, Shaun won Roxie over with how romantically adorable he was.

He bought me a teddy rose from the nearest toy store and even ordered a kiddies meal from McDonalds just so he could give me the toy spider that came with it! (Let me just add that I LOVE spiders!)

He proposed to me 2 days before my birthday whilst we were away for the weekend. He proclaimed his love for me one evening as we stood on the balcony of the guest house with the ocean waves crashing in the background as well as roses and champagne to the side. He went down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Queue DROOL!

The fact that I was unable to help with the decorating of the venue the morning of the wedding meant that Shaun and his best man had to do EVERYTHING! All the tree decorations, table set up and décor. Absolutely everything. So when I saw how perfect our little wedding looked when I eventually arrived, I couldn’t help but feel so proud of what my man did! With the help of my brother, nephews and the best man, the highlight was seeing how perfectly executed our planning turned out.

A Laid Back, Retro Wedding – Clare & Adam

MMI_0247

Today I get to share with you the beautiful wedding from Melanie Hart Photography of tattooed bride Clare and her husband Adam who had a DIY retro wedding reception in their local church hall in Preston, Lancashire.

MMI_0243

We met very late at night in a pub which Adam described in his wedding speech as a terrible place where people go when they’ve already had a night out! One of our first dates was to a monster magnet gig in Manchester, we’ve been to see the band every year since & Adam even proposed to me on the day we went to watch the band several years later.

MMI_0233

All of the wedding was planned by us as we wanted it to be really personal & had certain ideas of how we wanted it to be. We wanted a very laid back & fun atmosphere. I think Adams speech really showed our sense of humour.  He used several props like fake ears & funny glasses. I think this set the tone for the reception & relaxed people. Our wedding favours were beautiful handmade soaps made by Erica at ‘Fizzy Raskals bathbombs’ she made some gorgeous soaps wrapped in beautiful 70’s patterned style paper for some guests.

Most of the Decorations at the reception were DIY , my mum very kindly spent hours helping me make bunting & table Runners from retro 70’s fabrics. We had some really fun time together with her trying unsuccessfully to teach me to cut a straight line !  as it turned out all the table runners had zig zag edges!  I also used retro teapots I have collected over the years as centrepieces, some of my favourite pictures of the day are of how wonderful the Hall where the reception was looks. I feel it really shows all my gorgeous retro items off brilliantly!

When I went to look for a wedding dress my main thought was that I didn’t want a strapless dress , as it was after id tried on a few dresses the lady suggested a strapless one, me wearing this  dress made my best friend cry & my wedding dress was picked!

Several people said that my tattoo’s were very nice but a wedding wasn’t really the place to show them off so I spent a lot of time & effort trying to find a shrug to go with the dress, in fact I ended up with 2. But on the day of the wedding once I had my dress on I asked my bridesmaids for advice on which shrug to wear if any, the all said not to wear one & I’m so glad! Two of my favourite pictures from the day beautifully show off my dot work mandala on my arm that was done by Deryn at Tenacious Tattoo Sheffield.

I loved being driven to the registry office by mum my in a classic white VW  camper van called dolly, with my dad & best friend with me. My favourite memory of the night was dancing to a great  Wildhearts songs ‘Nita Nitro’  with my new husband & all my friends I literally let my hair down & enjoyed myself knowing all my panning had paid off & the day had gone so well.

How awesome are Clare & Adam? Thank you to them both for sharing their wedding day with Marry Me Ink and to Melanie Hart Photography for sharing their awesome photos with us! Be sure to leave them all some love!

Apps That Will Make Your Planning Your Wedding Easier

Today I get to share with you my three favourite wedding apps for tablet, iPhone and iPad that will help you brides-to-be with your wedding planning.

IMG_0150

There’s nothing I love more than being able to find local vendors and being able to see their work to hand. As well as this and mood boards, the Onewed app allows you to catch up on their latest blog posts!

(Unfortunately, the local vendor part of the app only works if you live in the US)

You can also search categories for inspiration for weddings such as bridesmaids and venue decor.

THE KNOT

The Knot app is very similar to the first app, but with extra bonuses with helping you find venues and photographers in your selected area (again, more for if you’re in the US) but to also takes into account your budget, guest list and overall style of your wedding.

A Story Of Long Lost Love In Atlanta – Ann & Paul

“The biggest representation of us was the simplicity, intimacy and inclusion of only our closest friends and family. We are not showy people who like to get up in front of a crowd to perform, so it was perfect to be married by Paul’s best friend and surrounded only be familiar, happy, smiling faces.”

Today I get to share with you this utterly beautiful, calming and intimate ceremony of Ann & Paul from Val & Sarah Photography that took place at Parish Foods & Goods in Atlanta where Paul’s best friend married them.

Over 5 years ago in early fall of 2008, I met Paul in Brooklyn after exchanging some stories on a now-defunct dating site that was, at the time, probably being held together by paperclips and string. Tall, goofy and handsome.. just my type! We hit it off and had a whirlwind romance over 6 weeks time.. until he told me he was moving to Nashville. Needless to say, I put the brakes on and he soon high-tailed it out of New York.

Months passed, and although he tried to stay in touch, I tried to move on. One afternoon, in January of 2012, I was updating my LinkedIn, in hopes of finding a new job, when in the right-hand corner of my screen appeared a suggested connection: Paul.

I thought, “How could this be? We haven’t talked in years!”, and quickly searched my email account for anything containing “paul” — hoping to find some straggling email from yesteryear which I hadn’t yet deleted. And there it was! An unanswered email from 3 years prior. He had found a bottle of wine from the Burge Family Winemakers (this is my maiden name), snapped a picture and purchased a bottle to try.

So, 3 years later, I wrote back with profuse apologies for dropping off the face of the earth and a request to catch up and hear how he is doing.. 20 minutes later, Paul wrote back! And he was in Atlanta.

Over the course of a year, we wrote hundreds of emails, thousands of text messages and logged a hefty volume of phone hours while we walked, drove, rode in taxis, cooked dinner, and before we went to sleep at night.
