Spiryt & I met by him stalking me at work at the mall (I truly thought “Wow, this guy is kind of awesome for thinking that I am this cool to be that into me” and it was kind of endearing). He worked upstairs for Verizon at the time, & I was a retail manager at Bath & Body Works. One of my friends, Asia, that worked with Spiryt had mentioned that he was wanting to ask me out.

She showed me a picture of him on her phone (this is back in 2006 when smartphones were super pixelated). All I saw were these amazing dreadlocks, and I was intrigued by his Lenny Kravitz-like looks.. I was geeking out that this really attractive guy wanted to meet me.

Asia kept putting in the good word for Spiryt, and she set us up meeting for the 1st time. She said, “He is coming down after work today at 4:30 to meet you”. That day, I planned to leave work early but as soon as I was walking out of my store, there Spiryt was in all his glory. I smiled so big – he was definitely more than what I expected. Such a gentleman.

Love Letters – An Autumnal Graveyard Engagement

Today on Marry Me Ink, I get to share with you Karen and Tyler’s cosy autumn engagement shoot  from Lily and Lane Photography. They both met when Karen had nearly given with online dating.. Their story is wonderful.

Tyler and I met online. Our experiences were quite different – I was the second person he met, he was more like 100th and I almost called the date off because I was so sick of online dating. I waited in the parking lot of Beacon Hill Park, and sat beside a peacock on the curb waiting by the petting zoo. Tyler was late, as his sister had just called to tell him she had an ultrasound and was having a baby girl (super cute memory now.) I was trying to avoid talking to a man who was barbecuing fish out of the back of his truck and telling me his life story. When I saw Tyler walk over, I leapt up and we had a good laugh about him rescuing me.

We went for a walk around the park, walked to the cemetery and looked at all the cool old headstones (we both love history). Then we doubled back to the park and sat on a bench and watched the ducks until dark. I sat in my car afterwards, “safety-calling” my mum, and said, “I really like him. He’s different.”

Planning Your Engagement Photography – Common Mistakes & How To Overcome Them

Soft Elegance Photography (5)

Today on Marry Me Ink, I had the chance to speak to Paula of Soft Elegance Photography and her tips and advice when planning your engagement or pre-wedding shoot.

Soft Elegance Photography (19)

16 common mistakes and tips to overcome those mistakes for your Engagement Photography

1. Location
Sometimes, a shy client may choose a location that is swarming with people, which only amplifies their shyness and tension during shoots. Be sure to research the best times to visit a location! But, let’s be honest, the more comfortable you feel, the more natural and honest your captured expressions will be.

2. Time of Day
Photo sessions which occur outdoors, in the middle of high noon, while the sun is at its brightest with no shade available is a disaster waiting to happen.

3. Select your wardrobe
Oh my gosh! How many morning have you stood in front of your abundantly full closet and said, “What am I going to wear!?” Here are some tips: – Select a color palette with one to two colors and add neutrals. In selecting your colors, feel free to pick different shades within that palette. This will allow a more balanced image.

4. Solid colors are preferred over patterns
Why? Because patterns take the attention away from the subject (that’s you) and draw the eye to the patterned clothing. Also, many patterns are extremely overwhelming. I’m not saying don’t do it, but be selective.

5. Do not wear the same outfits or colors
For example: you and your honey shouldn’t show up in blue jeans and a white shirt. Attempt to counterbalance each other.

seth-lauren-st-pete-engagement-12

Today on Marry Me Ink from Savannah Lauren Photography is Seth and Lauren’s gorgeous tattooed and bearded engagement shoot.

I met Seth two years ago. He was invited to join me and his sister Savannah for Indian food. About a year later, July 2015, I had accidentally invited him to an event where we watched a movie in the park. Seth came up to me and thanked me for inviting him. We started talking that day and we haven’t really stopped talking since.

I knew I wanted to marry Seth only a few weeks into dating him and I had never felt that way about anyone else. He felt the same way. It really is like they say “When you know, you know”. We both definitely knew! Seth was clear about his intentions with me and that helped us to build trust really quickly.
