An Outdoor Wedding At Falling Foss Tea Garden- Stephanie & Jock

SJ_15-08-14_324

Today I get to share with you this beautiful wedding that took place at Falling Foss Tea Garden, then onto the bride’s father’s back garden for a small, fun reception and then the day after for a larger gathering! Stephanie and Jock had family that travelled miles to be at their wedding, so the small reception meant that they got to spend time with everyone on their special day which Emma Warley Photography shot beautifully.

“Every detail was made to measure for us. It was mainly outdoors, it was fun, nothing too formal, it was really colourful”

Jock’s a musician and there was a musical theme throughout that wasn’t too heavy, but there were flowers made of sheet music, sheet music bunting and snack bowls made from old vinyl records. There were also butterflies, which mean a lot to me – my family told me when my gran died that every time I saw a butterfly it was her checking in on me.

We couldn’t find a way to fit in everything we wanted in one day so we used two! Friday was the ceremony at the waterfall, followed by a BBQ at my Dad’s house and we invited about 40 people. Saturday, we invited a further 200 and had live music, provided by an array of friends, and a hog roast and lots of dancing. It was important to us that our guests didn’t have to pay out too much, like you often have to with a hotel, so we fully catered the Friday and on Saturday the owners of the barn provided a very reasonable bar and a hog roast.

I loved the food! I had all my favourites – smoked salmon, steak and a cake made of tiered wheels of cheese!

An Outdoor DIY Lace and Vintage Barn Wedding – Felicia & Seth

Felicia-Seth-Marry-Me-200

Felicia and Seth married in a gorgeous outdoor wedding at Mathwig Event Barn in Maryland, completely decorated with lace and vintage trinkets, and photography from Unforgettable Expressions.

We met online. Our first few planned hangouts fell through and I was about to just give up. However our third date happened.. (Third time’s the charm right?) For our first date we hung out at Seth’s house and played with Star Wars Lego (we are huge Star Wars fans) and watched Blade Runner while adding our own commentary. He was such a gentleman and walked me to the car that night. He never gave me a goodnight kiss. So naturally I assumed he didn’t like me. The next night we got together and he finally kissed me… to which I laughed in his face. I had to quickly explain I wasn’t laughing at him but that his beard tickled my lips and made me giggle.

Pretty much all the decorations were DIY. I searched high and low on the internet collecting lace, vintage items, just anything you could think of. We got married in a barn and I filled it with wildflowers, mason jars, chalkboards, acorns and pinecones. I made a ton of scrap fabric garland in various sizes to hang in the entrance and on tables. I am a photographer myself so I really made sure that I set everything up perfectly for photographs.

The biggest thing in the entire wedding that represented us was probably the music. We aren’t fans of dance music or pop music or anything along those lines. The only music we played at our wedding was classic rock, some down and dirty bluegrass and folk. Let’s face it, get people drunk enough and they will dance to Mozart!

A Glittering Outdoor Autumnal Wedding – Kristen & Derek

MMI_1565

This week is all about my favourite season – Autumn. Later on in the week we have a beautiful Essences board full of earth tones, but today I get to share with you Kristen and Derek’s beautiful outdoor wedding that took place at The Kings Contrivance in Columbia, Maryland, full of lovely golden and brown tones from Sarah Culver Photography.

Our relationship has endured a lot of long-distance time in the almost 8 years that we have been together. Our relationship started out with Derek in Baltimore and me and Virginia and, most recently, we went through two years of me living in Toronto while Derek was still in Baltimore. Toronto was actually the backdrop for our engagement. I was preparing to attend the University of Toronto for graduate school, and needed to find an apartment. Derek travelled with me to Toronto to help me search for an apartment and proposed to me the first night we were there. He had this elaborate plan to go to the top of the CN Tower to propose, but I ruined it because I was exhausted after travelling all day and just wanted to get a bite to eat and head back to the hotel. So our proposal happened on the side of the street as we were walking back to our hotel after dinner and drinks! It was totally unexpected (as we still weren’t sure at that point if we were both going to move to Toronto) and was absolutely symbolic of the fact that he will always be there, no matter where I have to travel for either school or a job. He has always been supportive of me, and this was an amazing way for him to show it.

Derek and I hand picked everything about our wedding, so I’d say that all of the details represented us as a couple. The inspiration for our wedding came from our love of all things Autumn, while also staying light and airy. Derek and I always feel the most alive during the fall months, so of course we wanted to capture that for our wedding day. I also have an insatiable love for glitter and sparkle, so we threw touches of that throughout our decor without over-powering the rustic feel we were going for. It was also very important to us that we kept our wedding “all in the family”, per se. We are lucky that we know a ton of talented people, so we were able to have a close friend marry us (who also gave us matching love note tattoos shortly after we got engaged), as well as have friends film our day and provide services such as hair and makeup for the girls and barbering for the guys. And honestly, all throughout planning, we just wanted to have an awesome party for all of our friends and family. It was more important to have amazing music, food, and cake than it was for me to have some once-in-a-lifetime dress or expensive heels. We wanted the day to be about sharing our love with everyone that has always embraced us and supported us.

However, the most straightforward detail of our wedding that represented us as a couple had to be our cake topper. Our baker, Charm City Cakes, made us into little figurines based on our own personalities. Derek’s figurine was in a hockey jersey, which is a nod to his love of sports, and my figurine had my cat Piper peeking out from under my dress. It was a perfect depiction of us.

A Huge Family Wedding In Florida – Fontes & Tony

20131116-Tony-Fontes-610

I didn’t really think too much about my tattoos actually. What did keep going through my head was something my Mom said to me when I got my chest tattooed:
“I wish you would slow down a little, imagine what it will all look like in a wedding dress”

How gorgeous is tattooed bride Fontes? I love the wedding of her and husband Tony which took place at the Legacy Harbour and Marina in Fort Myers, Florida with photography from NikkiMayDay.

“The highlight for both of us was not so much the day, as the whole week.”

20131116-Tony-Fontes-240

Neither of us are from Florida, so both sides of our family came and stayed with us in a beach house on Captiva Island. Fourteen “strangers” lived together in for a week, and became one big family. It made our wedding day incredibly special because there were no “sides”. Everyone was already so comfortable with one another that they were free to have a great time. The staff at the marina commented that they couldn’t tell our families apart. It was exactly what we wanted, not so much the “look” as much as the energy we created.

The most common themed detail of our wedding was the Frangipani flower. Tony brought me one off the tree from the back yard on our first date ( I still have it). Its a very sentimental tree for Tony and his family. When we started planning, I dried the flowers that were falling off the tree. I really had no idea what I was going to do with them. Last minute I glued some to bobbi pins and had them put in my hair. We also had them put on our wedding cake.
