10 Survival Tips For A Hot Summer Wedding

Weddings happen throughout the year, but certain months are more popular for the wedding season than others. Many people want to have a wedding in the spring or summer, because it gives them more venue options to choose from. Instead of only having indoor venues to explore, they can consider having the ceremony outside.

Another big advantage of outdoor weddings is that they give the photographer natural light to work with, and you can also pick a place with gorgeous scenery, so you don’t have to pay for more decorations. The only issue is that if you’re having a summer wedding, temperatures are going to soar.

To keep yourself and your guests from melting away on your big day, read on for a list of survival tips for your hot summer wedding. You can still have your wedding on the summer day of your choosing, if you think ahead about making sure everyone stays comfortable while it happens.

1. Dress in Light Clothes
On your invites, remind your guests to dress in light clothes. Flowing dresses and rolled-up shirt sleeves will be much more comfortable for your guests than formal gowns and suits. You should do the same for yourself as well! When you’re out shopping around for your dream wedding dress, stay away from the options that have lots of layers. Something simpler will be lightweight and more free-flowing on your big day.

2. Always Have Water Available
Right when guests arrive for your reception, have water available so everyone can stay hydrated. It’s a terrible feeling to be overheated, especially when you’re dehydrated, too. Have large buckets of ice with water bottles prepared just before guests arrive. You can even work water bottles into decorations, so when guests carry theirs around, they won’t feel out of place.

3. Give Guests Fans
Fans are an easy way to give your guests something fun and useful they can take home with them at the end of the night. Lay out a fan on each seat the morning of your wedding or have them right by the entrance to your venue, so no one walks in without one.

4. Create Shaded Seating
Most outdoor weddings have guests in rows spread out across the grass, with nothing over them except the open sky. You can create shaded seating without going over budget to prevent guests from feeling sunburned when it’s time for the reception.
Rent tents and line them with lights or gauze to create a romantic feel in your seating area. Look around your venue to see if there’s a place under thick trees to host the ceremony instead. Try out a few different options and work with your venue to see what your best choice is.

5. Stock up on Rally Towels
Rally towels are best-known in the sports world, but they’re making their way into the world of weddings, too. You can give your guests rally towels personalised with you and your partner’s initials, or another motif that matches the theme of your wedding.
Guests can use the towels to prevent spills at the reception and wave them in the air as you walk back down the aisle or out the reception to your car. They’ll help make your wedding photos unique and save you from buying poppers or rice for guests to throw.  Continue reading

Dorothy & Tin Man – Wizard Of Oz Wedding Inspiration

We’re not in Kansas anymore Toto! Today on Marry Me Ink I get to take you to Oz with you this enchanting styled shoot from Kieran Paul Photography which was created by Jen of My Pretties UK and her team of flying monkeys (I mean some awesome Northern wedding suppliers).

The original idea for this shoot was brought to me by Emma McNamara from Ochre Eclective, she said she had an idea for a really alternative Wizard of Oz invitation and if anyone was planning a shoot, could she come in on it.. So my mind started working overtime as it often does and I volunteered my services to get it up and running. (If I am honest with a name like My Pretties, a Oz themed shoot had always been on the cards!)

My first search was for a venue in the heart of Yorkshire that had beautiful yellow fields, I was adamant that this shoot needed to take place outdoors and Thief Hall in Northallerton was stunning! Kieran Paul Photography was an obvious choice for me, his easy going nature and preference for natural light meant he was able to capture such vibrant images.

I knew I wanted the over all look to be vivid and vibrant, like the scene where Dorothy lands in Oz and it shifts from black and white to ‘smack you in the face’ technicolor. We went with a classic vintage look for our Dorothy with help from Elsie Vee Vintage dress design – she used an original 1940’s dress pattern to create the stunning dress, Doll’s Mad Hattery took Dorothy’s classic blue bow and added a birdcage veil. For hair and makeup we stuck to a classic 40s pinup look and we were very excited to have lingerie loaned to us by the fabulous ‘What Katie Did‘. Our Tin Man groom had a lot of steampunk elements to his look with fabulous makeup, headpiece and tie to accompany his awesome suit supplied by Dandy Threads.

Wedding Inspiration – Summer Garden Party

Are we all enjoying the glorious weather that we’re having at the moment? I know I am – I just love spending time in the garden this time of year, especially now our garden is nearly finished, just in time for all the Summer parties!

Hoping that Summer will stay throughout the months this year, I wanted to look at awesome ways to decorate your wedding with the season in mind – The Summer Garden Party.

Currently, artificial grass is becoming increasingly popular for wedding decoration such as table runners and decorative displays and I’ve found some fantastic ways it can be used for the perfect Summer Garden Party Wedding – See below some of my favourite ways that artificial grass has been used at Weddings.

I don’t know which is my favourite! I do love the artificial grass as the back drop for a floral cake table but I’m also equally in love with it as a table runner and having all the tealights and single stem flowers in the vases – Which is your favourite?

Today’s wedding takes places in both a theatre and a lighthouse! It’s super awesome, also there’s a bespoke graffiti piece that was designed for Meghann & Rick. With photography from NikkiMayDay Photography, I’m excited to share with you Meghann & Rick’s story!

I met Rick on my first day when I started working at a local Juvenile Detention Facility. We worked with teenage boys and girls who had mental health and drug and alcohol issues. We stayed friends for a few years, and then when we were out with co-workers one night, we started hitting it off and realized that there was some attraction. We dated for about 3 years, and then he proposed on my birthday!
