A Small, Down To Earth Wedding In Germany – Anita & Steve

MMI_2458

Wow, this couple have surely sparked your interest on Facebook this week! Anita sent me over her wonderful wedding photos from Steffen Beck Photographie just before I went on holiday and I’ve been itching to get it up and show you! It looked like such a fun day!

The story how we met and started dating is something I really like to tell. I had a phase when I really hated men, because of being single for ages and being heartbroken many many times. One Friday night, me and my friends met at my place and we planned to go to Speyer (which is 50 km away from the city where I lived) to eat burgers at a really nice american diner, Flaming Star, and meet with a friend there and go out afterwards to a metal club.

The very cool part about our story is the moment we saw each other for the first time. Later we went to this diner, I climbed up the stairs, and then there he was. It was really like in a movie. I saw him and went “Booom”. He was there with the friends we wanted to met with.

He told me afterwards, he was sitting there with his boys and told them that he had broke up with his evil girlfriend and wanted to be free and single now.. Then he looked over to the stairs and there were a few girls coming up them and there was this girl with a red hair band (guess who?) and then said “she’s mine”.

I always thought it wasn’t true and he told me that, because I am his girlfriend, but his friends told me once how he reacted when he saw me the first time. One wedding card even said “When Steve saw you the first time, he said “She’s mine” and now you are!”

A Low Key San Francisco City Hall Wedding – Dawn & Jason

brimcdanielphotography_dawn+jason-46

Dawn and Jason had a low key wedding at San Francisco’s city hall, followed by a reception at Kingfish Restaurant and drinks at Lucky 13 with photography by Bri McDaniel.

We met the old fashioned way… Online. We were 95% matched. The site has the option to rate people, which generates an email saying one of these people just rated you. I remember thinking, “I hope it’s the hot one.” He emailed once I rated him back. Dripping with romance, I know! We started exchanging texts, had a bit of a hiccup and met a month later. Our first date was a Jim Breuer show.

The low key aspect of our wedding definitely represented us well. We wanted it simple, yet fun. Private City Hall ceremony, lunch with our family followed by a celebration at our favourite bar for all our friends. The best was hearing, “Best wedding I’ve ever been to” by multiple people. It was a long day but we were able to incorporate all the aspects we wanted while still not breaking the bank.

An Outdoor DIY Lace and Vintage Barn Wedding – Felicia & Seth

Felicia-Seth-Marry-Me-200

Felicia and Seth married in a gorgeous outdoor wedding at Mathwig Event Barn in Maryland, completely decorated with lace and vintage trinkets, and photography from Unforgettable Expressions.

We met online. Our first few planned hangouts fell through and I was about to just give up. However our third date happened.. (Third time’s the charm right?) For our first date we hung out at Seth’s house and played with Star Wars Lego (we are huge Star Wars fans) and watched Blade Runner while adding our own commentary. He was such a gentleman and walked me to the car that night. He never gave me a goodnight kiss. So naturally I assumed he didn’t like me. The next night we got together and he finally kissed me… to which I laughed in his face. I had to quickly explain I wasn’t laughing at him but that his beard tickled my lips and made me giggle.

Pretty much all the decorations were DIY. I searched high and low on the internet collecting lace, vintage items, just anything you could think of. We got married in a barn and I filled it with wildflowers, mason jars, chalkboards, acorns and pinecones. I made a ton of scrap fabric garland in various sizes to hang in the entrance and on tables. I am a photographer myself so I really made sure that I set everything up perfectly for photographs.

The biggest thing in the entire wedding that represented us was probably the music. We aren’t fans of dance music or pop music or anything along those lines. The only music we played at our wedding was classic rock, some down and dirty bluegrass and folk. Let’s face it, get people drunk enough and they will dance to Mozart!

A Glittering Outdoor Autumnal Wedding – Kristen & Derek

MMI_1565

This week is all about my favourite season – Autumn. Later on in the week we have a beautiful Essences board full of earth tones, but today I get to share with you Kristen and Derek’s beautiful outdoor wedding that took place at The Kings Contrivance in Columbia, Maryland, full of lovely golden and brown tones from Sarah Culver Photography.

Our relationship has endured a lot of long-distance time in the almost 8 years that we have been together. Our relationship started out with Derek in Baltimore and me and Virginia and, most recently, we went through two years of me living in Toronto while Derek was still in Baltimore. Toronto was actually the backdrop for our engagement. I was preparing to attend the University of Toronto for graduate school, and needed to find an apartment. Derek travelled with me to Toronto to help me search for an apartment and proposed to me the first night we were there. He had this elaborate plan to go to the top of the CN Tower to propose, but I ruined it because I was exhausted after travelling all day and just wanted to get a bite to eat and head back to the hotel. So our proposal happened on the side of the street as we were walking back to our hotel after dinner and drinks! It was totally unexpected (as we still weren’t sure at that point if we were both going to move to Toronto) and was absolutely symbolic of the fact that he will always be there, no matter where I have to travel for either school or a job. He has always been supportive of me, and this was an amazing way for him to show it.

Derek and I hand picked everything about our wedding, so I’d say that all of the details represented us as a couple. The inspiration for our wedding came from our love of all things Autumn, while also staying light and airy. Derek and I always feel the most alive during the fall months, so of course we wanted to capture that for our wedding day. I also have an insatiable love for glitter and sparkle, so we threw touches of that throughout our decor without over-powering the rustic feel we were going for. It was also very important to us that we kept our wedding “all in the family”, per se. We are lucky that we know a ton of talented people, so we were able to have a close friend marry us (who also gave us matching love note tattoos shortly after we got engaged), as well as have friends film our day and provide services such as hair and makeup for the girls and barbering for the guys. And honestly, all throughout planning, we just wanted to have an awesome party for all of our friends and family. It was more important to have amazing music, food, and cake than it was for me to have some once-in-a-lifetime dress or expensive heels. We wanted the day to be about sharing our love with everyone that has always embraced us and supported us.

However, the most straightforward detail of our wedding that represented us as a couple had to be our cake topper. Our baker, Charm City Cakes, made us into little figurines based on our own personalities. Derek’s figurine was in a hockey jersey, which is a nod to his love of sports, and my figurine had my cat Piper peeking out from under my dress. It was a perfect depiction of us.
