When Two Trees’ Roots Join And Become One – Heather & Max

Hannah-dornford-may-erica-stacey-7

Tattooed bride Heather and Max married in June.  A friend took photographs for them on the day of their wedding.  After they returned from Honeymoon some of their wedding suppliers got together with photographer Hannah Dornford-May  and ‘recreated’ their day on location in Heather’s grandparents beautiful garden.  Here’s their story..

Heather and Max met on their first day at University.  They were good friends for seven years before finally falling in love.   However, after taking seven years to fall in love, Max then couldn’t wait to propose.  He started to think about how he was going to propose to Heather, but just jumped in and asker Heather before he had even bought the ring! Heather immediately said YES.

When they started to plan their wedding Heather and Max knew they wanted a very informal relaxed affair and here they tell us about their day.

Our wedding was different..  There were lots of different elements as it was very personal to us and not very traditional. We wanted an outdoorsy wedding with a countryside feel and we wanted  a really relaxed family atmosphere.   It was important that we had lots of little touches which were special to us and which family and friends were involved in.  For example, Max’s mum made lots of buttonholes for the groom and the guests.

Our celebrations started the evening before our wedding when we had a relaxed meal with our guests and then we all had breakfast together the next morning.   After breakfast, we all went to the ceremony on a lovely vintage bus.  We just wanted all our families together; because we both come from a divorced family we wanted everyone in the same room and it to be really intimate.   Our wedding was alternative but really good fun.

We’ve never smiled so much. When we both went into the ceremony everyone said we were both just like Cheshire cats the whole way through. There were so many people there with us to share the experience and it was such a wonderful day.

The tree tattoos were inspired by one of our wedding readings.  The reading was taken from ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’ which explains how you know you’re in love if two tree’s roots grow together and become one tree instead of two and that really stuck with us so we both decided to get tree’s done with their roots showing as a symbol  of our marriage.  It’s a way for us to remember it without  being typical tattoos.

All Because Two People Drank Wine – Eleoni & Paul

Today I get to share with you the beautiful wedding of Eleoni & Paul that took place at Ponte Family Estates Vineyards in Southern California with imagery from Karen Leah Photography.

Because we were planning everything, we really wanted all parts of the wedding to represent us as a couple. Early on we thought “What kind of wedding couple are we? Are we church people, beach people, estate people?!” Then it struck us, we are wine people, and what better place to have our wedding and celebration of our journey together than a winery. We had decided from the start that we were hoping for three words to describe our wedding, “Simple, Fun, & Elegant.”

We met online while he was Iraq serving his second deployment there (his third at that time) and I was in Studio City, CA. At first I thought it was just a neat pen-pal situation, but because of the distance we were far more open with each other than with people we were hanging around with no fear of re-percussive judgements. Daily Skype chats helped with getting to know each other though, and after his return home we in fact started to “go out”. I kept telling him that we should “just be friends”, but he definitely had other ideas in mind. Upon one of our first dates he asked me to meet him at a popular brewery/restaurant because his friends were throwing him a “Welcome Home” party. When I walked in everyone either had children or were coupled up, I thought to myself “Holy crumb, I’m dating the Marrying Man!”

All the DIY touches we had are truly “us” as we love being hands on and creating together, whether it is furniture or art. So a woodsy, shabby chic vibe kind of overtook our ideas.  Early on we had an idea we wanted to use chalk and slate board in the decor so that too became a running theme in the design of the wedding. The most fun thing to do was not an actual item but the morning of the wedding when my mother, sister (Matron of Honour), Fiancé, and I got together and set everything up alongside the coordinators of the venue. Although stressful it was absolute fun chatting while sprinkling polished stones and petals on the reception tables or setting up the guest sign in table.

The Day Pigs Flew – Ruzena & Greg

RGWed00398

It’s good to be back home this weekend. It was also lovely to have plenty of wedding in my inbox that I’ll be sharing with you these next few weeks! But today, I get to share with you Ruzena & Greg’s cute, simple wedding from Lotus Blossom Photography.

I got the idea of a wedding theme “When Pigs Fly”. I had no intention of a theme or anything like that. It was just so fitting because we were married a month before our nine year dating anniversary.

Greg and I met almost ten years ago at the Broadway Brewhouse/Mojo Grill through our circle of friends that would get together for two-for-one’s (two pints for the price of one) on Sunday nights. We both had our own thing going on so it was a delayed courtship. Greg would not leave me alone though and eventually, he stole my heart. Our first date was a hockey game. I had two free tickets from a friend (thanks Aaron!) I still didn’t know him very well, but I called all my friends and they had plans or were working. I don’t even think I had his phone number. Yeah that’s right, because I showed up at the tattoo shop he was working at and barged in all nervous and was like, “Do you want to go with me to a hockey game?” And he asked, “Uh, yeah, when?” And I said, “Um, well, now.”

A Hand Built Story Of Love – Steph & Jordan

MMI_1081StephJordanquote

About four weeks ago, today’s tattooed groom Jordan posted multiple photos to the Marry Me Ink Facebook page and I was astounded – Firstly, because it’s usually the brides and the photographers that contact me to feature their wedding. Jordan is the first, of hopefully many grooms, to contact Marry Me Ink to feature their wedding. And secondly, because their wedding photos from Chris Glenn Photography are beautiful!

The date that we met is not 100% known, for she was my bartender, and I was hers. I (Jordan) used to go to Steph’s bar, order a drink from her, and skip out because I was too nervous to actually speak to her besides ordering my usual gin and tonic.. One day before she moved to California she came into my bar and sat at a table drinking margaritas and eating tacos. I told her friend Matt “I’m going to make out with that kid before we move!” so we took a shot together and exchanged numbers.

I got blasted and blew her off. I thought I’d ruined every chance I had… Well thankfully the next day, she responded to my text and agreed to meet up with me that night at our local watering hole in Orlando Florida “The Lodge”. We hung out in the crows nest with all our friends who happened to be a lot of mutual ones, and just talked and had cocktails.. The night didn’t end there, we went back to her apartment and she showed me some of her art in person (stephwoodpaints.com) then just chit chatted some more. We still weren’t tired so we walked to my apartment, hopped on some bikes and legit rode until the sun came up.. We then watched a Silversun Pickups Unplugged video, and kissed to “lazy eye” which is our song now, and ever since that day we haven’t left each others side.

There were two highlights for me on our wedding day –  The first time I saw Steph in her wedding dress getting out of the limo to walk down the aisle, I damn near lost everything I had in me. And secondly, our first dance. We danced to City and Colour’s “We Found Each Other In The Dark” but I had one of my best friends interrupt the dance and acoustically play “lazy eye” for us.
