Love Letters – Sunshine And Windmills

MMI_4725

Today I get to introduce you to Brett & Mina. An awesome couple getting married in November and have the awesome Dan Hough Photography there to capture it all!

I first met Brett at a festival in Florida – in October 2010. This is a little bit of a contentious issue as we met through a group of his friends who had travelled from Cleveland, Ohio – who I all became great friends with, apart from him! We loosely kept in touch over the next few years, got to know each other better when I returned to the same festival in 2013, sang along to our favourite bands together and had a great time.

The subsequent intermittent and conservative conservation continued until the summer of 2014, when we spoke of returning for the same thing that year – I had already planned to fly to New York for 5 days beforehand, then down the country to Florida to meet him, as well as my other Cleveland friends. A few weeks beforehand, Brett changed his flights to join me in NYC – I often joke our first date was actually a two week holiday! Despite the risks I knew it was the right thing to do, and I’ve never once regretted that decision. After this we navigated the time difference and distance with late night FaceTime conversations and messages, then Brett finally booked flights before Christmas to join me here for three months from March, which have been perfect – we’ve travelled to Ireland, Belgium, and all around the UK (I even satisfied Brett’s inexplicable desire to visit Stonehenge) and back to his hometown of Cleveland, OH, just last week.

Love Letters – A Tattooed Spring Garden

MMI_4315

Today I get to share with you the gorgeous Clare and Jon’s outdoor love shoot from Emma of  ELS Design Photography. Emma is based in Kent and her photography is so quirky, creative and bright – I love seeing her work.

I liked Jon for a long time before he even knew I existed. Then a few months down the line by huge coincidence we was set up by a mutual friend. We only had one date!

Jon proposed on my birthday, I say “Jon” but he actually tied a ribbon round our dog’s neck with a ring and little card saying “Will you marry me?”.

Candy Coloured Sweetness & Smoke Bombs

MMI_4072

When Lexi of Fleming Photography and Rockabetty Studios emailed me with the title “Smoke Bombs Ahoy!” I knew I was in for something amazing! Lexi teamed up with the wonderful Louise of Oh My Honey to create a cute but punked-out bridal shoot with real-life couple Seye and Lucy.

When Louise from Oh My Honey and I both emailed each other the same day asking to collaborate on a styled shoot, I knew the outcome was going to be special! Louise and I met years ago when she first launched her bridal range and I worked with her with my studio company Rockabetty Studios. I am absolutely in love with Oh My Honey dresses and jump at the chance to work with Louise any day of the week! We wanted to vamp up her pretty 50s bridal dresses and that’s where Lucy and Seye from South East London stepped in!

I love alternative, non-traditional couples who are up for a real laugh on their wedding day, so when Seye and Lucy came forward to be our real couple for the shoot, I was so excited! There is nothing easier than photographing real couples in love. You could not only see the love, but the immense fun they both have with each other. Lucy has an incredible amount of work for a number of amazing London tattoo artists and Seye himself has collected pieces from all round the World too. Lucy looked amazing in Louise’s dresses and shows that alternative brides look wicked awesome too!

Smoke bombs was one of the first things I said when we knew we were going to be together a collaboration shoot and lucky for me, everyone was on board! I had never worked with them before, but Seye and Lucy were well up for some unpredictable fun.

An Urban, Graffiti Filled Groom Shoot

nottingham-portrait-photographer-9

I couldn’t wait to share with you this urban styled groom shoot from Matt Selby Photography. I love it that I get to share tattooed grooms as well as tattooed brides! Matt decided on an impromptu photoshoot in Nottingham’s Lace Market, where nothing was planned, apart from the shoot. After meeting up with his trusty assistant Gareth, they met up with model (and recently crowned Mr Nottingham) Chris Wells

The following images were taken to demonstrate the photographic potential for grooms (or brides for that matter) in urban areas. The areas covered in the shoot are all within a 5 minute walk from each other so one doesn’t have to venture far to find ideal photo opportunities.

I find it interesting to walk down a street with the intention on finding a suitable area for a photograph, with this mind-set one can quickly find scenes/backdrops that could otherwise be ignored. One particular building I came across had some serious photographic potential, a boarded up door, paint cracking & peeling off the walls the kind of building you don’t expect to see in Nottingham’s Lace Market – the sort of building people will pass on a daily basis and simply ignore, maybe we’re subconsciously drawn to the opposite in urban areas, as we’re so used to seeing designer shops, vibrant colours, advertisements etc which makes building like this go unnoticed. For me, finding these hidden gems can not only be satisfying when you see the final images, but can set you apart from other photographers.
