A 1960s Retro London-On-Sea Wedding – Laura & Dave

Laura_Dave_wedding-652

Tattooed bride Laura wore a bespoke sixties style dress by Joanne Fleming Design (One of Marry Me Ink’s favourites) when she married husband Dave last year. Laura and Dave are both originally from seaside towns, so they decided to bring that feel to their wedding day, complete with fish and chips and have it all captured by the wonderful Ed Godden Photography.

Dave and I met whilst making a video game commercial. We remained friends for a number of years, hanging out with a similar group of friends and seeing each other at the odd BBQ. Neither of us considered a relationship with the other, until we drunkenly bumped until each other at a bad rock club – the rest is history as they say!

The whole wedding was based around us as a couple. We are both from Seaside towns (Brighton and Portsmouth) and therefore wanted represent that in our theme. As our home town of Stoke Newington in London, means so much to us we chose to have our wedding there, rather than having to pick a hometown and we created the theme of London-On-Sea. We found a beautiful venue that was set on the reservoir in Hackney and fed the guests with fish and chips on long tables, to make it feel like we were sailing on a galley ship. To keep the theme relaxed, we also serve our favourite foods of tacos, cupcakes and doughnuts and as the evening progressed, we got the bar to serve all our drinks in red-cups, which made incredible photos.

A Farm Wedding And A Bride With Dreadlocks – Sarita & James

Sarita and James BLOG-54

Today’s tattooed bride Sarita with gorgeous dreadlocks decided to wear a stunning Phase Eight dress when she married James. They got married at Dorset venue Lower Stockbridge Farm and even had their dog Irwin there for the day. Photos are by the awesome Jason Williams Photography.

I met James in my first day in a new job, thought hubba hubba! We became friends for around 6 months (he had a girlfriend) but they split up. He came round for a haircut (I used to live in South Africa at a monkey sanctuary where I somehow became the hairdresser amongst the volunteers!) and after 2 bottles of wine, chatting and playing the guitar till around midnight, met up the following night for a few drinks, and been together ever since… Almost 3 years now.

We’re both pretty laid back and informal, the venue was perfect for us as soon as we saw it.  It was held in an unassuming barn that had a wow factor when you walked in with gorgeous beams, fairy lights dotted all over the place and subtle lighting that changed from purple to deep red to green, was just such a lovely feature, the venue was nothing grand or pretentious, and we found an awesome reggae band who just made the evening perfect.  As a surprise for James I’d arranged for his dog Irwin, to be the ring-bearer, so I think having Irwin around the place not only felt completely normal to us, but completely made James’s day, and didn’t seem at all odd to any of our guests!

A Colourful, Romantic, Piñata Filled Wedding In Mexico – Jeni & Oscar

I have been waiting what seems like forever to feature tattooed bride Jeni and her husband Oscar’s wedding from the awesome photo and video husband and wife team Nick and Maria of Studio 1208. I absolutely love them both and when Maria contacted me about her friend (Jeni) who got married at a fab villa in Mexico, I obviously had to feature is ASAP!

details_094

Well, we first met 16 years ago. I was 19 and he was 23 and dating my friend. (Just like any normal 19 year old, I let her know that when she was done with him I would be ready for my chance!) We hit it off and had way too much fun together (The poor guy was trying to finish college and I was in Party Girl mode). We dated for about 6 months and then I moved away. He went on to travel and work in Europe and I went and did my own thing, dated other guys etc. During those 14 years apart, I always thought about him.

We were never in love when I was 19, I was too young to even know what that was, but we had something special and I always hoped we would reunite (At least just to say “Hi”)

Fast forward, I’m 33 and getting separated from my then husband. Literally the same week Oscar, out of nowhere, popped up on my Instagram (I didn’t even know I was following him!) He was in my town and I immediately messaged him. One week later we made plans to meet up and grab a drink. I was so excited to just see my old friend, I didn’t expect what would happen next. He walked into that bar, gave me that famous hug and I literally melted. That’s when it all started. Ten months later he proposed and ten months after that I married him in Mexico. (Ten months after that I’m pregnant.. I think you know what happens ten months after that!) He is truly my soulmate. Our fate was strong enough and it brought us back together – Where we belong.

The details from our wedding were colorful, Spanish and romantic. We had a HUGE custom pink heart shaped piñata made that hung above us whilst we exchanged vows. That big heart truly represents our love. As for DIY –  my sister in law dipped old wime bottles in gold glitter which were used as candle holders down the centre of the tables. They were absolutely perfect!

A Woodland Tea Party With Band Merch And Bunnies – Erica & Adam

vtphoto-21

Marry Me Ink’s tattooed bride Erica and groom Adam met in a record store – How cool? (Erica says Adam loves telling everyone that!) Today I get to share with you their wedding that took place in their back yard and was photographed by the wonderful V+T Photography. Erica decided buy a dress that was going to show off her tattoos, despite conflicting opinions. I think she made a great choice.

My Mom is pretty traditional, and hates tattoos. She was trying to get me to have them removed before the wedding and told me “they’ll ruin all your photos! You don’t want that!” It was obviously really horribly and upsetting and not a great way to start planning your wedding, but I didn’t listen, because that would be stupid and she was wrong, and started looking for a dress. The only thing that really mattered was that the dress didn’t lay in such a way that they look really weird. So things like lace tops where out. I’d rather them be all there or not at all. The dress I designed and made was so open and airy, we only made one adjustment to the placement of an ornamental strip of ribbon on the back so it would frame one tattoo rather than cut across it and that was the full extent of my dress V. my tattoos.

I worked really hard to put the both of us into everything. The blue color we chose was based off of his favorite guitar color, I call him my bunny and we have a special “super bunny kiss” so we used bunnies in everything as well. Our invitations and the branding I used across everything was based off little parts of each of us, like our astrological signs, habits, symbols we strongly identify with, etc. I also design a lot of posters and t-shirts for bands, while he is in a band and is also a record collector so we had a merch station set up. The favor we gave out was a 7” he wrote and recorded and I designed the cover to be like his favorite Ramone’s record cover, we also took “band photos” to reflect some the Ramones had done. Really it was everywhere. We wanted to have it really be about us and be really intimate. Like “Hey! We’re super big nerds and look at how ridiculous we got into this?” was pretty much in every inch.
