Today on Marry Me Ink, I get to share with you tattooed bride Kristina and husband John’s surprise wedding from Olivia Christina Photography complete with their pug Stanley in a bow tie!

John and I met on OK Cupid! He kept looking at my profile and I kept wondering why he wasn’t messaging me. So I messaged him! “I think we’d get along” was my crazy pick up line. We met at a bar on a Monday, and that Friday we went away together. I don’t think we’ve been apart since.

First off, our wedding was an engagement party turned surprise wedding! We had been engaged for a year with no plans of sending out save the dates, a “surprise” wasn’t really that surprising to our guests. We are both very hands on and creative people (both of us are hairstylists), so being able to do so much of the wedding decorations ourselves was very representative of us as a couple as well. Something really special for us was having our pug, Stanley there. We are obsessed with him so it only seemed right to have him with us, bowtie and all! All the details truly reflected us and our style from the Photo Booth with silly props, to my short dress, to the mason jar, to the succulents at every turn, to the Stanley Cup grooms cake. Not wanting a “traditional” ceremony or reception was important to us. I got to cut my wedding cake in a leather jacket! We got to be surrounded by friends and family, eat great food, drink great whiskey, take silly pictures, and hang out by a bonfire – it was everything we wanted.

A Skull Themed Wedding At The Boat Club – Zelda & Paul

It’s the weekend! Today on Marry Me Ink, I get to share with you tattooed bride Zelda and husband Paul’s skull-filled wedding at St Mary’s Boat Club from Topher + Rae Studios.

Paul and I met more than a dozen years ago at the Red Fox Tavern (it was a bit of a shady place and it has since closed down , too bad, they did have great wings ) “we were foxing it up” as we like to call it, after we danced the night away Paul drove me home but not until we almost got murdered by a train, yup we ran the tracks, what a close call I can still hear the train and see the lights, now that’s excitement for ya. We exchanged phone numbers and I heard from him a week later and we started dating we instantly clicked, it wasn’t long after and we moved in together.

The skulls were defiantly a big part of the day. Like I said in our program why the skull theme? The wife likes skulls, happy wife = happy life.

Being from Newfoundland I wanted some Newfie elements as well so I had ordered a seal skin bow tie from Always in Vogue from St. John’s Newfoundland, “this store is amazing”. Another Newfoundland element we added was an ugly stick a time long tradition of a Newfoundland musical instrument used while mummering at Christmas time. It’s made from a broom handle (being totally Canadian we used a hockey stick) and an ol’ rubber boot, a tin can here and there and a crap load of beer caps, “some lovely craft beers was consumed in the making of the “ugly stick” add a large coffee can for the head & a mop as the hair. Voila, an ugly stick was made. Pick it up, bang it around and beat on it with an old wooden spoon… this was our request for kissing at the reception instead of clinking wine glasses which we deemed too hard on the ears and probably not safe for the glasses.

An Art Filled, Peak District Wedding – Laura & Gary

MMI_3347

Today on Marry Me Ink, I get to share with you this amazing tattooed bride and groom from Yorkshire alternative wedding photographers Tux & Tales.. Laura and Gary’s had a Peak District wedding at Cubley Hall. Both of them are art orientated (Gary being a fab tattooist) and Laura designed all of their stationery.

MMI_3294

We first met back in 2006 when my friend introduced us and Gary (Brownie) did my first ever tattoo. We didn’t cross paths again until 2008 when I came to Sheffield to study Graphic Design at University. We arranged our first date and have been together ever since! It was like we had known each other for years.

We wanted to try and hand make as much at our wedding as possible, which was really hard but with us both being creative people it felt important to add our own personal touches. I had little mini easels for the table numbers to show our artistic side. The Tea light holders and bunting were made by my amazing Grandma and Mum. I designed and hand printed all the invites and stationery including the signs and table plan. And for favours, my Mum made baileys flavoured cupcakes for everyone.

A Downtown City Hall Wedding With A Bride In A Jumpsuit – Tara & Rob

MMI_3063

Today I get to share with you this Ottawa, Ontario simplistic wedding of Tara and Rob from Chantal Benoit Photography. Their wedding day was kept simple and small by having their children witness their marriage along at their city hall with a small selection of friends and family.

We met at my workplace – I cut his hair and we always enjoyed chatting. We were familiar with each other from another place, but it was really during these haircuts that we connected.
