A Colourful, Vintage Pavilion Wedding In Birmingham – Holly & Neal

_DSC5434

Today’s wedding features all of my favourite things – a tattooed bride and groom, a vintage salon, lots of colour and lots of fun! Holly and Neal were married at Joseph & St Helen Catholic Church and later on celebrated at Rowheath Pavilion in Birmingham. Holly wore a gorgeous vintage dress and her hair and make up was done by the wonderful Le Keux Vintage Salon in The Custard Factory. And that’s not it.. There’s plenty more to hear about the wedding with photography from By Garazi.

We met in April 2003 when we started nurse training.  We met through another Student Nurse called Lee and we became a close little group (the three alternative students in our intake) who spent all our uni time together and would meet up ‘in town’ at the weekend. There was chemistry from the start, Lee was never allowed to sit in the middle and would tease us the ‘you could cut the sexual chemistry with a knife!’. We always denied that we fancied each other even though we obviously did, probably much to the annoyance of our actual partners!! Towards the end of my relationship, I (very naughtily) kissed him one night when we were out drinking. It was the best kiss I had ever had and, although I became single soon after that, it somehow just didn’t fit.  We (he) decided that we couldn’t be friends and we didn’t see or speak to each other for about 3 years.  That drunken kiss had placed Neil in the back of my mind and when other relationships failed I would always think about him and miss him and tried to figure out why it hadn’t worked out for us.

At some point about 3.5 years ago, we started talking via Facebook and kept planning to meet but he would keep cancelling on me last minute!  We were texting a lot and eventually when we did met up we were both single, a bit more grown up and it just fell into place.  I’ve never been happier.

The highlight of the day is hard to pinpoint because the whole day was fabulous!  But there was a special moment for me.  After I had got out of the car, walked up the Church steps into the back of the Church, I got a glimpse of Neil stood at the alter waiting for me and my nerves and stress melted away.  Everything that had lead up to that point I knew had been worth it and I just wanted to run down the aisle and be standing there with him.

I loved every minute of the Church service.  The Priest had us all laughing throughout the service and my family had arranged some live Irish music as a surprise.  I just loved it all and had lots of fun (which I hadn’t really expected to). Also, I am a Catholic and all of my Holy Sacraments had been at the Church.  I went to the school associated with the Church, I saw my mother marry there and I have said goodbye to loved ones there so to get married there was emotional.

A Glittering Outdoor Autumnal Wedding – Kristen & Derek

MMI_1565

This week is all about my favourite season – Autumn. Later on in the week we have a beautiful Essences board full of earth tones, but today I get to share with you Kristen and Derek’s beautiful outdoor wedding that took place at The Kings Contrivance in Columbia, Maryland, full of lovely golden and brown tones from Sarah Culver Photography.

Our relationship has endured a lot of long-distance time in the almost 8 years that we have been together. Our relationship started out with Derek in Baltimore and me and Virginia and, most recently, we went through two years of me living in Toronto while Derek was still in Baltimore. Toronto was actually the backdrop for our engagement. I was preparing to attend the University of Toronto for graduate school, and needed to find an apartment. Derek travelled with me to Toronto to help me search for an apartment and proposed to me the first night we were there. He had this elaborate plan to go to the top of the CN Tower to propose, but I ruined it because I was exhausted after travelling all day and just wanted to get a bite to eat and head back to the hotel. So our proposal happened on the side of the street as we were walking back to our hotel after dinner and drinks! It was totally unexpected (as we still weren’t sure at that point if we were both going to move to Toronto) and was absolutely symbolic of the fact that he will always be there, no matter where I have to travel for either school or a job. He has always been supportive of me, and this was an amazing way for him to show it.

Derek and I hand picked everything about our wedding, so I’d say that all of the details represented us as a couple. The inspiration for our wedding came from our love of all things Autumn, while also staying light and airy. Derek and I always feel the most alive during the fall months, so of course we wanted to capture that for our wedding day. I also have an insatiable love for glitter and sparkle, so we threw touches of that throughout our decor without over-powering the rustic feel we were going for. It was also very important to us that we kept our wedding “all in the family”, per se. We are lucky that we know a ton of talented people, so we were able to have a close friend marry us (who also gave us matching love note tattoos shortly after we got engaged), as well as have friends film our day and provide services such as hair and makeup for the girls and barbering for the guys. And honestly, all throughout planning, we just wanted to have an awesome party for all of our friends and family. It was more important to have amazing music, food, and cake than it was for me to have some once-in-a-lifetime dress or expensive heels. We wanted the day to be about sharing our love with everyone that has always embraced us and supported us.

However, the most straightforward detail of our wedding that represented us as a couple had to be our cake topper. Our baker, Charm City Cakes, made us into little figurines based on our own personalities. Derek’s figurine was in a hockey jersey, which is a nod to his love of sports, and my figurine had my cat Piper peeking out from under my dress. It was a perfect depiction of us.

A Fun, Traditional South Causey Inn Wedding – Michelle & Martin

Today I get to share with you the traditional, but fun wedding of Michelle and Martin from Jamie Penfold Photography that took place at the South Causey Inn in Stanley, Durham. I think a wedding taking place in a traditional pub is awesome!

We originally met on the millennium night whilst out celebrating with friends. But due to Martin leaving to go to Germany with his regiment, we agreed it would be better if we parted. Time past we both went our separate ways had long term relationships and children. Years past and I wanted a tattoo and with Martin leaving army after serving, 10 years he become a tattooist. I got a few tattoos done we both were single and almost picked up from where we left off. There was always an unspoken thing we had between us and I feel our story, which I have shortened as much as possible otherwise we’d be on all day, is definitely the finding of true soul mates.

A Simplistic, Laid Back Wedding At Sydney Park – Jackie & Chase

MMI_1320

I’m so excited to share Jackie & Chase’s cute wedding ceremony with you today featuring gorgeous images from Strawberry Fields Photography that took place at Sydney Park. Jackie and Chase decided to opt out of the wedding reception after their vow exchange.

We actually met online and the moment I saw him I knew that he was supposed to be apart of my life. Chase is American and was living in Boston at the time while I was living in Sydney. I had been planning a trip to visit the states and used that as an excuse to make conversation, asking where the best places to go in Boston were (even though Boston wasn’t a part of the itinerary)

MMI_1357

Soon enough, not a day would pass without us texting and Skyping and I had changed my entire trip around so I could spend as much time with him as possible whilst I was there. I knew he was the one before I physically met him, I honestly didn’t think that it was possible to fall in love with someone you hadn’t even met until Chase came in to my life. Everything about him was incredible and it felt like the one thing that had been missing my entire life wasn’t missing any more. The way he made me feel, how he could make me smile and laugh more than anyone ever had before, the connection we had and still have, being able to talk for hours on end about anything and everything. If you know me you would know I don’t get excited all that often.. and he was the first person I got so excited about. I was excited to learn everything there was to learn about him. I longed to speak to him every morning and every night, and I would get butterflies each time we would talk. He made me want to be the best version of me possible, and he just got me… Like none else was ever able to.
