Quirky Wedding Dress Ideas

For any bride their wedding day is special. It is the most important day of their lives, so they want to look amazing.

In the past that meant one thing. Looking like a princess in a long, flowing, often frilly, white dress, with the male members of the wedding party wearing morning suits.

Today, that is no longer the case. Increasingly brides are saying no to the frilly dress. Instead, they want wedding outfits that are a better reflection of their own sense of style and personality.

Fortunately, designers realise this. There are some great alternative wedding dresses out there. If you are about to get married and want a different look you will love the following ideas.

BOLD AND BRIGHT WEDDING DRESSES

Deep rich colours are a great option. Red, plum, or violet dresses look fantastic. If you do not want to be that bold, go for a more traditional dress, but add a shrug or short jacket in a rich colour to add vibrancy to your wedding outfit.

If you want to you can get everyone involved by asking your guests to wear an item in the same bright colour as part of their wedding attire. It is best to make it optional. That way nobody will be pressurised into having to buy something he or she does not really like.

THEMED DRESSES

Themed weddings offer something different. Over the years, I have seen some fantastic examples.

You can choose any theme that works for you and your partner. Really, you are only limited by your imagination.

A simple approach, that gives you plenty of scope, is to choose an era and theme your wedding around that. During 2015, we saw some great Victorian themed weddings.

Going for a certain style or look also works really well. For example, the steampunk, rock and roll, punk or Goth looks. If you and your partner want to dress in your favourite style on your wedding day there is no reason why you should not do so. Your wedding gown and your partner’s suit can be made in any style you choose.

Taking something from popular culture and theming your wedding in that way, is great fun. An Alice in Wonderland or a ballet themed wedding are just two great examples of what you could do.

Carrying the theme over into every element of your wedding is, of course, important. Hiring the right vehicle, having an appropriate bouquet made and decorating your reception venue to reflect your theme all makes a huge difference. You need to pay attention to detail to pull off a themed wedding, but it really is worth the extra effort, and you are guaranteed to end up with fantastic photos and great memories.
