A Modern Gastby Wedding – Alicia & Tyler

It’s Friday! And to round off the week, I get to share with you Alica and Tyler’s modern Gatsby wedding from Kristel Collins Photography. The gorgeous venue for their wedding I hear you ask? The Life Arts Centre – Full of amazing banquet halls in downtown Riverside, CA. Kristel wore a gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress too!

We met at the age of 15 in youth group… We began dating in our Freshman year of High School but we eventually separated. We then found our way back to each other when we were 24 and have been inseparable ever since.

The highlight of our wedding day for me, was walking down the aisle… That is the one moment I had dreamed about since Tyler proposed. I just couldn’t wait to see his face! Even though we’d been dating on and off for about 14 years, I still had butterflies during that moment.

We had tonnes of DIY at our wedding! Most of it came from researching new and fun ideas, along with some creativity on my Mother’s part! We had a ribbon backdrop for our ceremony that was then transferred to our sweet heart table. We had tonnes of vintage plates for our dessert bar. My Mum put together all of our feather centrepieces and added the crystals to our candelabras. We made almost 200 ribbon wands (by hand) to use for the ceremony.

I think what separated us our modern-vintage theme. I wanted Gatsby but I wanted to make sure that it had a modern twist to it so it still included the vintage elements. My bridesmaids’ dresses were my most proud moment as a bride. It took me months to find them all and I could only get them online! It was very risky but well worth it!

My top tip for couples planning their wedding is to not worry about the small details… There were so many little things that I worried about prior to our big day, which we didn’t even notice in the end! Look at your wedding day like it’s a party – We made sure our guests had a great DJ to dance to, each with a drink in their hand. We were told by many that it was the best wedding they had ever been to.
