The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza – Birmingham

image002

Back in early 2012 a wedding show like no other was borne.  It tumbled, devoid of elegance, from the crazy hearts and minds of three creative wedding industry suppliers, Sassy (Assassynation), Jo (The Couture Co) and Vikki (Liliia Designs). Their desire was simple; to encourage couples to shake off the shackles of wedding conformity and showcase the very best of alternative wedding industry suppliers, who are also known as The Baaad Ass Mother Flockers!! (Aka Baad ass Mo Flo’s) who all offer a diverse and eclectic feast of all things wedding in a fun, friendly and relaxed environment. I went last year – It was awesome! There was so much cool stuff going on – Check out how it looked with these photos from the day from Louise Holgate Photography.

Since 2012 The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza has showcased a wonderfully diverse range of services and products, from kick ass wedding dresses to sculptural flower bouquets, from gothic themed wedding cakes to some of the best DJ’s around. Previous shows have included live music, stilt walkers, a procession of models in gorgeous dresses and accessories on the Real Bride’s walkabout and amazing prizes to be won in the renowned treasure hunt.

In 2016 the Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza is back with a bang, with a vibrant, unique and eclectic show in Birmingham!

The Extravaganza will be held on the 21st February and will take place at the unique Bond Company, a hidden gem in the heart of Birmingham’s industrial Digbeth. The Bond Company even has a café which is a great place to sit and consider all the unique wedding products and services on offer.

Legend Bridal Designs – Bespoke Bridalwear

Legend Bridal Designs is run by three awesome ladies who I’ve had the greatest time getting to know over the past few years of running Marry Me Ink. They even created a gorgeous gown for the Blog Awards last year and I got the chance to model another of their designs in October here.

We are Legend Bridal Designs – Charlotte, Rachel and Tracy. We are bespoke dressmakers designing and creating from our little studio in Blackburn. We have been described as eccentric and maybe that’s true. We definitely don’t fall into what you would typically expect of bridal shop owners; tattoos, piercings and variable hair colours abound. But that’s exactly why we do what we do… Not everyone has the same vision for their wedding and we GET it.

We are heavily influenced by myth and folklore. Fairytales are a magnificent source of inspiration and several of our collections have been based on particular tales; The Asrai, The Huldra and The Sidhe for instance. (The Sidhe, is the set we share with you today from a collaboration with ZT Photography)

Our styles and influences are constantly evolving through our own personal interests; For me (Charlotte) I’m naturally drawn to darker aesthetics where Rachel is much more colourful in her design. I guess this means we never fall into any one style. We find inspiration everywhere; the books we read, films we watch, the people we come into contact with and our friends all shape what we create and each of us have different tastes and strengths that means we really know where our brides are coming from.

Quirky Wedding Dress Ideas

For any bride their wedding day is special. It is the most important day of their lives, so they want to look amazing.

In the past that meant one thing. Looking like a princess in a long, flowing, often frilly, white dress, with the male members of the wedding party wearing morning suits.

Today, that is no longer the case. Increasingly brides are saying no to the frilly dress. Instead, they want wedding outfits that are a better reflection of their own sense of style and personality.

Fortunately, designers realise this. There are some great alternative wedding dresses out there. If you are about to get married and want a different look you will love the following ideas.

BOLD AND BRIGHT WEDDING DRESSES

Deep rich colours are a great option. Red, plum, or violet dresses look fantastic. If you do not want to be that bold, go for a more traditional dress, but add a shrug or short jacket in a rich colour to add vibrancy to your wedding outfit.

If you want to you can get everyone involved by asking your guests to wear an item in the same bright colour as part of their wedding attire. It is best to make it optional. That way nobody will be pressurised into having to buy something he or she does not really like.

THEMED DRESSES

Themed weddings offer something different. Over the years, I have seen some fantastic examples.

You can choose any theme that works for you and your partner. Really, you are only limited by your imagination.

A simple approach, that gives you plenty of scope, is to choose an era and theme your wedding around that. During 2015, we saw some great Victorian themed weddings.  Continue reading
