Quirky Wedding Dress Ideas

For any bride their wedding day is special. It is the most important day of their lives, so they want to look amazing.

In the past that meant one thing. Looking like a princess in a long, flowing, often frilly, white dress, with the male members of the wedding party wearing morning suits.

Today, that is no longer the case. Increasingly brides are saying no to the frilly dress. Instead, they want wedding outfits that are a better reflection of their own sense of style and personality.

Fortunately, designers realise this. There are some great alternative wedding dresses out there. If you are about to get married and want a different look you will love the following ideas.

BOLD AND BRIGHT WEDDING DRESSES

Deep rich colours are a great option. Red, plum, or violet dresses look fantastic. If you do not want to be that bold, go for a more traditional dress, but add a shrug or short jacket in a rich colour to add vibrancy to your wedding outfit.

If you want to you can get everyone involved by asking your guests to wear an item in the same bright colour as part of their wedding attire. It is best to make it optional. That way nobody will be pressurised into having to buy something he or she does not really like.

THEMED DRESSES

Themed weddings offer something different. Over the years, I have seen some fantastic examples.

You can choose any theme that works for you and your partner. Really, you are only limited by your imagination.

A simple approach, that gives you plenty of scope, is to choose an era and theme your wedding around that. During 2015, we saw some great Victorian themed weddings.  Continue reading

Holding An Outdoor Wedding In The Cooler Months

Toast Of Leeds

I love weddings. Over the years, I have been lucky enough to attend many of them. My all time favourite was one that was held outside in the late autumn. For me, there is something extra special about outdoor weddings. Especially those that take place in the spring or autumn, when the weather is a bit cooler. However, if you are planning to marry outside during the cooler months there are a few extra things to organise. Nothing major, just a few things you need to check and organise to make sure that everyone, including you, will enjoy your wedding day.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT VENUE

First, you need to find a venue that is suitable for this type of wedding. Of course, you want somewhere that has a nice outdoor ceremony space, but you also need a backup just in case the weather is not as good as you hoped.

Most outdoor wedding venues use pergolas.  When the weather is good, they are left open to the sunshine, but if it looks like it is going to rain there is usually a top and canvas sides that can be unrolled to provide protection for the bride and groom.

Usually the same can be done with the seating area for the guests. That way the ceremony can go ahead as planned, with everyone staying warm and dry. Some venues also provide outdoor heating.

If you opt to get married in a barn wedding venue you can get the best of both worlds. Often, if it is cold or wet on the day you will be offered the chance to take the ceremony indoors.

However, if you want this fall back option to be available you need to ask about it before booking the venue. Make it clear that is what you need and find out what the backup ceremony area looks like, how big it is and how it will be decorated. That way, on the day, if it really is too cold or wet you know that everything will be ready for you to marry indoors instead.

KEEP THE CEREMONY SHORT

Holding a shorter ceremony also makes sense for a wedding that is outside, in the winter. Most people are warm enough outdoors if they are moving, but they soon get cold if they are sitting or standing still. Bear this in mind and be realistic about how long you can keep your guests outside in the colder months. Be especially mindful of this if you have very elderly friends and relatives in your wedding party.

COATS & BLANKETS

Having some blankets available for those guests to put over their legs is a good idea. If you are getting married outside during the colder months let your guests know that coats are OK. You will be surprised at how many people will stand there shivering because they think wearing a coat to a wedding would be impolite.

PROVIDE WARMING DRINKS

Getting married in the winter or colder months is a great chance to mix things up food and drinks wise. Nice touches like providing hot mulled wine as well as champagne along with a hot chocolate bar, for those who do not want alcohol, keeps everyone warm and makes your wedding a bit different.

DoctibPhoto Inspi Rock Tattoo Flower-6049

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Who got engaged over the holidays and midnight celebrations this weekend? Today I get to bring you a gorgeous tattooed inspiration shoot all the way from the French Riviera from Doctib Photo who also got inspiration for their shoot from Marry Me Ink which is awesome!

For this inspiration wedding photoshoot, we wanted something that mixes nature, including tattoos and flowers, and Rock culture (custom dress, tags, motorbike, and rock concert).

We wanted also to have an amazing place, we found this abandoned church close to Frejus and fell in love with the place. The church has burned in the 70s and was never been repaired. This church is in the middle of the nature, surrounded with pin trees, on the top of a mountain – Magic!

For the bride, dress designer Marynea wanted something different from a normal dress, she created a two-parts dress, with 2 tops. For the ceremony – a black crop top, made of French lace, sensual and very feminine. For the party she wanted something fun – she used a Jack Daniel’s t-shirt and made a backless top, that revealed the tattoos of the bride.

An Magical Outdoor Wedding Picnic – Meagan & Micah

AJWP_MMI_0028

Today is Marry Me Ink’s final post of 2015.. How quick has this year gone? I’m not going to do a year round up post this year – There would be far too much to try and fit in! Instead, I’m going to share with you Meagan and Micah’s inmate, outdoor wedding from Allison Jeffers Photography.

My sister is married to a fire fighter and she had just had a baby. (my niece) I was over at her house seeing the baby and Micah showed up to see my brother in law. He is also a fire fighter. He asked my brother in law about me and the rest is history.

We had a small, intimate wedding, and we both don’t like to make things big and flashy. We did it outdoors with very woodsy colors and we both love being outside.

Our entire wedding was DIY. I painted, spray painted, glued, and made many trips to Hobby Lobby. I am big on making things myself and crafting is something I enjoy, so the DIY aspect of the wedding was very important to me.

I definitely took my tattoos into consideration when searching for my dress – I love the classic look with tattoos and needed mine to show!
