Canadian Winter Wedding Inspiration

The weather has been scorching this weekend – Who was more than warm at a wedding this weekend? I know I was! I thought we could do with a little cool down this evening and this winter wedding inspiration from Victoria Jean Photography.

Here in Canada, our wedding season is extremely seasonal. Between January and May is a slow time due to our harsh winters, so I like to use this time for some creativity. A few months ago, I had an idea for a styled shoot I thought would be fun. I wanted to go for a darker, moody themed shoot with dramatic details. Often times, couples avoid getting married in our off-season due to the weather; I wanted to show that our winter weather can still create a beautiful vibe too.

I reached out to some other local vendors and models, and we decided to put it together! The final result was well beyond what I had imagined. I’m from a small town in Newfoundland, Canada and the talent here is truly amazing – I wanted to make sure I gave each vendor creative freedom with this; I created a mood board for the theme, and let everyone work their magic from there.

I didn’t see any final details (except the dress) until the day of the shoot. We all had a chance to really push our boundaries, and everyone involved really put out their best work! I’m proud to showcase it through my photography.

This wedding inspiration is perfect for those planning their wedding for the cooler seasons – I especially love the use of the ferns in the flower arrangements. Thanks to Victoria Jean Photography for sharing this shoot – The whole team did a fantastic job!

The 8-Step Guide for Planning a Last-Second Honeymoon Getaway

Perhaps you’ve been so focused on the mechanics of your big day that you forgot about that one final detail — the honeymoon. Maybe, you just realized you could fit a newlywed trip into your budget. Some of you might have decided that you do, indeed, need a vacation after the wedding chaos.

No matter the reason, you’re planning your honeymoon at the last minute. Fortunately, it’s possible to book a trip that will give you all the relaxing, romantic vibes you need without breaking the bank. Here’s our eight-step guide to doing so.

1. Figure Out Transportation First
Some planners will be lucky enough to live within driving distance of a honeymoon-ready destination. If so, transportation doesn’t have to be a huge consideration — book a hotel, pack, hop in the car and go.

However, most honeymooners will have to find a flight to where they want to go, and last-minute tickets can be pricey. Use a flight aggregator website like Skyscanner, where you can plug in your home airport and specify your intended destination to find the cheapest flights. To that end, if you’re unsure where you want to go, you can use Skyscanner to search for “everywhere” as your destination to see what your most cost-effective options are.

2. Don’t Get Married to Specific Dates
You’re in a marriage state-of-mind, but, to plan a last-minute trip, you have to be open to travelling on different days to find the best deals. For instance, flying on Friday and Sunday tends to be more expensive, since everyone wants to either leave work and go, then get home and start the week seamlessly. If you’re willing to fly in the middle of the week, though, you can get a much better deal — and you’ll only have to get through a few days of work before fully resetting on the weekend.

3. Use the 14-Day Rule
Two weeks before a cruise sets sail or a hotel welcomes guests or a plane takes off, they take drastic measures to reach full occupancy — they lower prices. If you’re two weeks away from your intended honeymoon dates, now’s the time to look for flights, hotels or cruise berths. You could also find a discounted travel package that includes your transportation and accommodation.

4. Pay Attention to Travel Site Emails
In the past, you’ve probably used a travel site, such as Orbitz or Expedia, to help you book your discounted travel and hotel. These companies send out regular emails to flaunt their best upcoming deals. As you start planning your last-minute honeymoon, pay attention to these messages. This option will be especially fun for the spontaneous brides and grooms out there – a website could help choose your first destination as husband and wife.

5. Use Apps to Help You Plan
Your honeymoon won’t just involve selecting a flight and hotel. Before your last-minute departure, you should have an idea of all the fun things you can do — and the great things you can eat — once you reach your destination. Travel apps, such as Yelp and TripAdvisor, will show you the top activities, restaurants, tours and more. Then, you can use apps, including Google Translate, to help you communicate in a new country or OpenTable to help you book romantic meals each night.

6. Enlist Help
Last-minute trip planning can be stressful, and you’re probably already swamped with the final details of your wedding. So, consider finding the right travel agent who can help you. This option doesn’t have to incur a significant expense, nor will your helper choose an exorbitantly expensive trip for you and your new spouse. Instead, they will work to put together a package that suits your budget and travel window.

Plus, they have connections — a travel agent picking up the phone and calling hotels for you will have more weight than you trying on your own. You might even get special treatment upon your arrival, which is what we all want on our honeymoons.

7. Always Do Your Research
If a travel deal appears too good to be true, then it probably is. Before booking any last-minute trip package, be sure to use the user-review apps mentioned above and see what others have experienced on their getaways. In some cases, they’ll have had wonderful trips, which can give you the confidence you need to book. However, you might find that your destination isn’t all it’s cracked up to be — and you’ll save a lot of money determining that now.

8. Don’t Be Afraid of the Waitlist
You’ve booked your flight and hotel, but you can’t seem to get into any of the activities you want to do on your honeymoon. Don’t fret — ask the people in charge to put you on a waitlist. You might not be able to do everything you want to do, but you’re likely to find that restaurants, spas and other places will be willing to work with you to make your honeymoon memorable.

Get Married and Go
Your honeymoon is the relaxing reward for months spent planning and preparing for your walk down the aisle. In other words, you’ve earned this – even if you’re putting it together last-minute, don’t skimp on your first vacation as newlyweds. Book it, get going and enjoy every moment.

A Nerdy Sci-Fi Wedding In Chester – Sarah & James

Today on Marry Me Ink, I get to share with you Sarah & James’ Sci-Fi wedding that took place at Soughton Hall in Chester from Fox and Bear Photography. They both met one December over boardgames at Brewdog in Liverpool when Sarah was visiting friends when James’ Stargate tattoo caught her eye. They hit it off immediately and got back together for New Years. “He basically moved in with me on the 1st of January.”

The theme of our wedding was definitely us – we went for a loose space theme and made all the table centrepieces and table plan to reflect this. Each of the tables was named for one of our favourite sci-fi spaceships.

The centrepieces were 3D printed by my friends Andy and Joules, I then hand painted each of them. James made 10 different flavors of savoury and sweet jams as wedding favours for our guests and I also decorated our cake to look like a galaxy. Painting the spaceships was definitely the most rewarding element but each came with their own stresses, James was wise and got all of his Jams done well in advance. I think I finished the last spaceship a couple of days before the wedding!

I was sure I wanted my tattoos to be visible so all sleeves were off the table. I liked the rockabilly element of a tea length dress as well as I thought it worked well with the tattoos so I had quite a clear vision going into the search.

A Book-Filled Rhode Island Wedding – Devin & Taylor

Today on Marry Me Ink I get to share with you Devin & Taylor’s wedding from Lauren Hawkins Photography – I came across their wedding online and had to know more about it. From Devin’s red dress to their photos on the water – I love all of it (Plus.. How they met is amazing!)

We first saw each other through a window at the seal rescue clinic at Mystic Aquarium where we both worked at the time. We weren’t able to actually speak to each other due to sound proof glass; just smile and wave. So over the next few days we both hoped to run into each other at work but somewhere without quarantine walls and a window we could only communicate by charades. After a few days went by we ran into each other at a night event. Devin was working and I had a 10pm seal feed. In our awkward attempt at flirting, Devin offered dessert and I offered a baby seal.

The next time we met at the window I finally had the courage to give Taylor my number so I ran to the back gate to meet them there. However, when I got there Taylor beat me to it and nervously asked me if they could give me their number. Me, trying to play it cool but failing left the piece of paper with my name and number on it in my back pocket, completely going deer in the headlights. I was so excited I was grinning like an idiot and walked completely past the doors to get inside as staff were laughing at me.

After asking Devin out about 4 times our schedules finally matched up and she said yes. We missed the movie because I was nervous babbling the whole time and for some strange reason she found the entire thing to be endearing. The second time I was so nervous I burnt the popcorn and the pizza. She just laughed and said it wasn’t that bad. The third time the picnic I had planned got rained out so we had sandwiches in the living room and made flower crowns. I think our first few dates involved a lot of nervous chatting and very little food. But they were full of laughter and we wouldn’t change a thing.
