Love Letters – Woodland Dreams and Camp Fires

Today I get to share with you Jenny and Al’s engagement shoot from Wisconsin photographer Megan Yanz. The shoot took place at Jenny’s cabin which is where their wedding will be next year.

Al was friends with my older brother in high school, but he and I didn’t become friends until after high school.  We stayed friends for a couple of years and then decided to live together as roommates in our early twenties.  After six months of living together, we “fell in love.”  But, as all beautiful romances go, life kept getting in the way of our relationship.  We dated on-and-off all through our twenties, until three years ago we decided that we couldn’t live without each other anymore.  It’s been great ever since.  Now we have a dog, a condo and a wedding to plan!

Al proposed while we were making lunch together at home on a Sunday.  He got down on one knee and pulled my ring out of his pocket.  He held my hand and said, “Will you continue to be my best friend, always laugh with me, and love me for the rest of my life?” I said yes, of course, and then he sat me down and said he had another surprise planned for me that day.  He had asked our tattoo artist to come in (on her day off, just for us) and give us our couples tattoo that we had talked about months prior.  So, we finished eating lunch and spent the next 6 hours at the tattoo shop. I said, “Wow!  Way to spring two life-long commitments on me in one day!” My adrenaline had never been so high for so long.  Once our awesome tattoos were finished, we got carry-out from our favourite restaurant in town, went home and bounced wedding ideas off each other over a bottle of wine.

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For ICE CREAM!

MMI_2915

Today is all about this adorable pastel-infused bridal shoot from Kat Forsyth Photography that Gwenda of The Vintage Floral Design Co. shared with Marry Me Ink at Blooming Green in Kent.

MMI_2809

When Kat shared with me her idea for a pastel-infused, retro shoot filled with ice-cream goodness, I could immediately envisage how it could be brought to life!

MMI_2794

I brought together a team of contributors, most of whom I have worked with many times previously and knew would be on board with the theme. Our collection of models, three gorgeous girls and two handsome guys, gave us a full wedding party of Bride, Groom, Bridesmaids and Best Man to work with.

Blooming Green is such a special place – every time I go there to source and hand-pick blooms for my work I can’t help but fall in love with it a little more. Jen & Bex indulged me the use of their plot for this shoot and every arrangement I made is made exclusively from their organically-grown flowers. I chose an array of colours, from pastels through to their brighter and bolder counterparts, to stand out against the pale colours of the dresses.

Kat’s photos encapsulated the spirit of the day perfectly: “Summery, retro ice cream pastels were the key theme for this shoot, so despite a rather drizzly, blustery day I tried to infuse the pictures with a little sunshine and warm tones. Lots of natural laughter and happy, ice cream cone eating shots were the order of the day – I really wanted everyone to look like they were just having fun, which we were (while being incredibly stylish at the same time!)”

A Thorncrown Chapel Wedding – Sarah & Jason

JasonSarahBLOG40

Today I get to share with you Sarah and Jason’s gorgeous wedding from Cottonwood Studios that took place at Thorncrown Chapel in Arkansas followed by a reception at Devito’s Italian Restaurant. Their first date is the best ever.. Just a warning – Their kids are just the cutest!

JasonSarahBLOG21

We both met at work. I was recently divorced and thought that he was cute, so naturally I completely avoided him. Once I found out that he was also a single parent, I  made it a point to start conversations. Eventually, I asked Jason if he wanted to have a Harry Potter movie night. This question came in a Facebook message, about 10 minutes after we had been speaking in person. A very mature move that I’m still pretty proud of. The next day, we had that movie night and have barely been apart since.

We wanted to build our own bouquets with the wild flowers that we could find around the area. The morning of the wedding, we went to breakfast and then drove on country roads, cutting flowers from fields and roadsides. Our goal was to find as many irises as we could, and we thought that we had in one particular ditch. After a few minutes, an old guy named Steve came from his house across the street to see what we were doing. BUSTED. When we told him, he told us to go into his yard and take all of the irises that we needed, because he just mows them down. Later in the day, after our weeding party arrived, all of the bridesmaids helped to build the bouquets together. Thanks, Steve.
