Love In The Woods – Katie & Mathew

fbIMG_0118

Today I get to share with you Katie (who has the most gorgeous purple locks – I have serious hair envy) and Mathew’s post-wedding portraits from Carla Blain Photography. As a busy mum of four, Katie talks about how lovely it was to take time out and be pampered. They were both pleased to finally have beautiful wedding images that they could treasure forever.

Our story is a bit of a crazy, busy whirlwind. I met Mathew at work 3 years ago when I began working as a staff nurse. We both work within the operating theatres at our local hospital so our eyes actually met over an open abdomen! Our first meeting was him teaching me how to mop up blood properly and him mocking my cleaning skills (which continue to this day!) For me, it was an instant attraction. He was funny, tall, sexy, tattooed and at the time, he had an awesome Mohican hair cut and a large spacer/plug in his ear. I was instantly hooked.

You’d think he would be quite an intimidating figure for the elderly patients coming into theatre, but the older ladies absolutely loved him. And so did I! Unfortunately he was completely oblivious to my attempts at flirting for quite some time. Put it this way, he had plenty of attention from the ladies in the hospital and broke quite a few hearts along the way. Being 5 years older than him, and a mother of two young children already, I never really thought we could have a future together as we had completely different life styles, but I still couldn’t get him out of my mind. I knew I wanted him. Long and messy story short….  He finally saw sense when he almost lost me and we started seeing each other in May 2013.

We went on our first holiday together in the July where we had a lot of fun and drank a LOT of pina colada…. We stayed in an awful apartment but we still had an amazing time and laughed non stop. We grew close very quickly and before we knew it, talks of the future and possible babies were in the air already, but what we didn’t know is that a little person had already been in the making since our pina colada filled holiday! Once we found out I was pregnant, we decided to fast forward our plans and  just get married.

A Colourful Tattooed Filled Wedding – Clare & Jon

Clare-&-Jon---ELS-Design-Photography033

Remember tattooed bride Clare and husband Jon’s Tattooed Spring Garden engagement shoot and story of how Jon proposed using their dog? Well, it’s now time to share their super gorgeous colourful wedding that took place earlier this year (after only 20 weeks of planning too!) from Emma of ELS Design Photography.

I knew who Jon was for a while, he used to come to my work for lunch every now and then, a while later we met in a night club and we briefly spoke. However, a few weeks later, by coincidence, we was set up by a mutual friend! We only needed the one date – we just clicked!

The overall theme of the wedding represented us, everything from our ceremony music to bridesmaid dresses. – we both love anything 50’s. We only had 20 weeks to plan our wedding, but I think we did a wonderful job! As soon as we booked our special day, we were shopping for decorations, favours and  table pieces.. Most of them we had to make ourselves, but it was nice to have some personal touches to the day – Jon made all the stationery.

A Wild Wedding Party At SmART Space – Michelle & Jon

Retro_Peacock_Photography(82of204)

Today’s tattooed wedding on Marry Me Ink, I get to share with you Michelle and Jon’s wedding that took place at the quirky SmART Space, 78th Street Studios in Cleveland, Ohio. Most of their wedding was DIY and was captured beautifully by Retro Peacock Photography.  (Also, I’m in love with Michelle’s Simply Beaux Jewels necklace – They’re UK based!)

Jon and I met in middle school. A friend of his at the time invited my friend and me to sit with them at lunch (she and I usually sat alone), so we sat with them (a group of rowdy punk rock boys). Jon and I didn’t actually talk at all during lunch; we sat across the table from each other. However, at the end of lunch, I got up and walked by him to leave, he stopped me and asked me about my outfit: “don’t you wear that every other day?” I was used to my peers heckling me and being the smartass that I was, I replied with “yeah I do, I like this outfit and I don’t give a F what you think”. I walked away before he could respond. The next day at school, he pulled me aside, told me he respected my response from the day before and then he asked me to walk home with him. I was intrigued and it was too cute to resist, so I did. We ended up talking and walking around the woods near his house until it got dark outside and the rest is history.

Our wedding cake design, lined in leopard print ribbon and our cake topper, actually hand made by one of the bridesmaids, were silhouettes of a cat and a fox touching noses. This was significant because he and I are both wild at heart and animal lovers, so we chose our favorite animals because it was something non-traditional and different. We actually cut our cake with his family saber. His family has a long-standing tradition with attending Culver Military Academy and everyone who has attended, has their name engraved on the saber. We thought it would be a cool way to make me officially a member of the family, to wield the saber, because if/when we have children, they will go to Culver as well.

I live in London but I love travelling. I love flip-flops, picnics, vintage furniture, eating with chopsticks, looking at the sky, watching fringe shows and people who follow their dreams. And be warned, I seem to be using the word ‘love’ too often.

What inspires me is YOU, your personality and your unique wedding! Then, when I shoot, I get drawn to details, colours, texture, graphic elements, interesting artificial light and apparently walls!
